40 years later. She should be filthy rich for how much her picture has been used.

Nirvana baby loved being the Nirvana baby until it was convenient not to.

Imagine having non-stop war in your country for 40 years

-send_me_bitcoin-

The forty years was interrupted by five war-free years of Taliban rule after they won the Civil War and before 9-11. Yikes.

Nightowl2018

National Geographic should pay her a salary!

Sure it’s one of the worlds most famous images, for whatever reason, but how many times have you seen it because of natgeo compared to pictures of the cover of natgeo.. it’s not their fault they can’t stop piracy.

This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10243227/Afghan-girl-famous-cover-portrait-evacuated-Italy.html) reduced by 81%. (I'm a bot) ***** > The iconic Afghan 'girl with the green eyes' from the cover of the 1985 National Geographic has been given safe haven in Italy after fleeing the Taliban. > Sharbat Gula became the face of the Afghan war after her piercing green eyes were captured in an iconic photograph taken in a Pakistan refugee camp when she was just 12.Years later, Gula was arrested in Pakistan in 2016 for living in the country on fraudulent identity papers and deported back to war-torn Afghanistan. > Gulla gained international fame in 1984 as an Afghan refugee girl, after war photographer Steve McCurry's photograph of her, with piercing green eyes, was published on the cover of National Geographic. ***** [**Extended Summary**](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/r2pb12/afghan_girl_with_the_green_eyes_from_iconic_1985/) | [FAQ](http://np.reddit.com/r/autotldr/comments/31b9fm/faq_autotldr_bot/ "Version 2.02, ~609727 tl;drs so far.") | [Feedback](http://np.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%23autotldr "PM's and comments are monitored, constructive feedback is welcome.") | *Top* *keywords*: **Afghan**^#1 **country**^#2 **photograph**^#3 **Pakistan**^#4 **Gulla**^#5

She looks strong and beautiful now. I can't imagine all of the things she's endured in her life. You're comments are especially disturbing given how many young women in Afghanistan are being sized up in the same way and then sold to men twice or three times their age. The young ones get more money. I wonder why? Why you would want to feed into the same kind of toxic and dehumanizing perspective of women is unbeknownst to me..

ghabhaducha

Lol, name checks out.
