What is this? I didn’t know they made official golden disks aside from some Botcon Cyber Keys and the masterpiece toys.

Optimus3k

They're not official, they're from Unicron.com. The piece in the middle is an attachment for Transmetal Megatron so he can spin the disks like the show. I always planned on getting the figure, but it never happened, so the set kinda languished in a box.

plushbrick

Ah, I see.

RAcastBlaster

You could ask a jeweler? It should say on the package what they are, I would think?

Optimus3k

Nope, nothing about how they were made, just the standard "not for children, may be hazardous of swallowed, don't tell Hasbro we did this" blah blah blah.

RAcastBlaster

I’d still go and ask them. You can say you have some old jewelry that you’re not sure how to polish and you’re not sure what it’s made of. They’ll probably suggest you try a jeweler’s polishing cloth. Most places sell them for like $5.

Optimus3k

Ok, thank you. My wife needs her rings cleaned anyway, I'll stop in and ask them.

MaksimusPrime

I wouldn't polish them. From a coin collecting perspective it ruins the patina. Not sure how other collectors would feel on the subject. But that's my 2 cents.

Optimus3k

I bought this set ages ago, and now that it's relevant again, I want to polish them up for the Ark. Only problem is, I know next to nothing about how these were made and I don't want to ruin the finish trying to make them shine.

_Allie_Kat_

If they’re just brass you could use plain white vinegar to brighten the finish! I’d take a bit of vinegar and a toothbrush and gently scrub the surface.

Optimus3k

If they're brass plated and not just brass, will the vinegar still be safe? I don't think it's possible for me to get another set if I mess it up, ya know?

_Allie_Kat_

Vinegar should still be ok for plating! Maybe try a little test section with just a rag dipped in it, maybe on an edge or someplace inconspicuous. I really don’t know what the material is, but vinegar shouldn’t harm anything.

Optimus3k

Ok, thank you, I'll give it a shot!

M16_EPIC

It's solid brass anyways, so you definitely be fine

Ranbotnic

Get some Brasso metal polish. Easy to find
