First post (that actually follows the rules) so welcome back to the sticky slot. For everyone popping in, thanks for being a part of the Splatfest! Feel free to use this post as your own congratulations. Any other posts about the results need to be spoiler tagged and teams out of titles for the next day. And if you have any complaints, send them else where except here. We hope to see you all again next time!
If you'd like to see the breakdown of points, here's [another post](https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/comments/yulx5e/splatoon_3_pok%C3%A9mon_splatfest_percentage_results/) that shows the percentages
I arguably think the "Pro" category might be a bigger tell. The notably higher percentage there hints that Team Water attracted better players that take "ranked" modes more seriously, who also contribute to the "Conch Shells" and "Open" categories. The popular vote has been separate from the skill based "victory" votes in the past
I also have no idea what I'm talking about
Pro and Open categories are poorly named, I'm pretty sure more people who play seriously played Open than Pro because Open let's you group up, plus Open and Tri-Color are grouped together (when you queue up for Tri-Color you're thrown into Open games until the game decides you get to play Tri-Color) so most of day 2 is just Open because people want to play the unique mode. As someone who played both Pro was way easier because you never had to deal with coordinated teams, even just a pair of people with good communication is a huge advantage.
Yeah, pro is how I stopped my losing streaks, going for a solo Q in open felt like asking to lose. Once I got my "rank" in pro matches felt a lot more balanced.
The major difference is that Pro is only solo queueing, while Open allows you to queue with your friends to play as a team. In theory that's the only difference, but in practice that means Open is actually harder
Grass has pretty much always been thought of as the least popular starter. Of course there are exceptions in some generations but with the question, as asked, referring to the series as a whole, I think grass being the least popular is the expected result.
I did expect fire to be closer to water though, possibly even the most popular, but I guess Pokemon like Mudkip and Oshawott have skewed popularity away from fire over the years.
Of course, there's always going to be some trickery with these figures in Splatoon because of the people who choose their team based on things other than the theme (because they're Shiver simps, or because they wanted to stick it to Shiver, etc)
I was just trying to get to ruler but it took me 4 hours
It’s all the more insulting when you lose but then the game says you got #1 splatter and #1 turf inker
The first Tricolor I played I was a force of nature. Slaughtered everyone who so much as looked at the beacon.
I was in four or five more tricolours after that and lost every single one to team Fire. I was sure they’d win Splatfest.
It’s funny seeing comments like this from team water, because I was on Fire and was repeatedly FLATTENED by team water! Like they were going hard, like they were Big Man’s Strongest Warrior or something.
I saw this sentiment a lot in the early days of Splatoon 2 as well, including in 2020 when they brought a few Splatfests back and there were a bunch of new players. A lot of people don't seem to get that their personal Splatfest experience is a drop in the bucket (if even that) in the grand scheme of things. I say that as someone who was on Team Water, but also didn't have a lot of successful matches.
Same here. I went to sleep after the splatfest ended thinking we were doomed. Got woken up by my phone and a bunch of “BIG MAN SWEEP” texts from a sibling. Jumped out of bed and here I am.
From the Tri-Turf Wars I fought, I saw a lot of geniuses on your side. Between holding it down in the middle and knowing exactly when to deny or gain Turf, you guys really fought for this sweep.
Tricolor marches were my favorites because of how smart almost everyone was playing. As an attacker it was nice to have to think on actual strategies to approach
LEGIT. I felt so targeted in every Tri color battle just cause I was grass, we’d be in last for turf percentage and still getting dumped on.
That said, gg everyone! Was a fun time
I feel this. I resorted to playing Dapple and tossing beacons under the bridge and just continuously make runs for the ultra signal. I never got close otherwise.
Oh so it was different? I thought it might have been but I wasn't certain it had changed from the testfire. They cut the left side route to mid from the attacker sides, I think?
Yep they made it harder to approach from the left side which encouraged teams to go to the right, making it easier for the defending team to secure the centre.
And I believe the sprinklers slowed down eventually. Like how the sub weapon sprinklers do. The first time around the were just full ink out put the whole time.
They ***heavily*** shrank the spawns of the attacking teams. Like, almost comically so, the topmost platform basically doesn't exist now and it's possible to leap *over it into the next lowest platform from the spawn drones.*
The attacking teams having effectively a free 20%-or-so of the map that the defending team can't do anything about will not be missed, that's for certain.
18 wins, 16 losses in tri-colour as a defender this splatfest. My win rate in tri-colour was a lot better than in splatfest turf war.
No idea what people are talking about when they say attackers have the advantage.
**edit:** People have replied saying that the scoring system Gem analyzes in this video is outdated. If that’s the case, it explains a lot. I was watching Gem’s stream yesterday w/his reaction to the results, and he thought there must have been some change in the clout rewards. He didn’t think the map change alone would increase the defending team winrate drastically enough to give them a chance at winning Open.
I’m paraphrasing and going by memory, but I think that’s the gist of it. He was busy doing some coaching and I didn’t watch the whole stream so I don’t know if it came up again. But he was curious to hear what the clout rewards looked like for Water players this time. (I was on Team Water, but, uh … lost all my tri-color battles and mostly stuck to playing Pro which is why I have no idea what the current scoring looks like.)
Anyway, the video should still be interesting for explaining why Tri-Color scoring was messed up, even if it’s apparently fixed now. There are a couple minor incorrect things in the video (even for past scoring) that are corrected in the video comments, but they don’t change the overall conclusion.
I’m also curious about the new scoring but I should get some sleep first!
___
The problem is/was mostly the math behind the scoring. The attacking teams get *way* more clout for winning than the defending team does. [Gem of Squid School analyzes it in this video.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=tYMGQzgSpQ0)
If the tri-color map is like a normal turf map where no one has an inherent advantage, then the defending team *will* lose Open. The defending team actually needs to have the odds skewed in their favor in order for it to be fair. Based on the results, it seems like the map changes may have accomplished this. Your win rate *should* be better than in turf war (unless they change the scoring).
I think that’s what Nintendo *meant* to do from the start, since it’s the only way the amount of clout rewarded makes sense. As well as things like the ultra signal sprinklers. It’s meant to be an uphill battle for the attackers rather than fair odds, hence the huge rewards if they do manage to win. It makes sense thematically too, with the underdog teams fighting against the leading team.
I believe they changed the way Tri-Color matches are scored in this Splatfest. The information in that video is outdated, as far as I can tell.
I believe the new way it works for the attackers is that both teams get the same victory reward and your team gets points for capturing an Ultra Signal and attempting an Ultra Signal capture. I don't know how defenders are scored since I was on Team Fire. But attackers don't get Clout for their score, even if they win. Attackers are also competing with each other for Clout now, which might be what made the difference this time.
I'm honestly a bit sad that we didn't even win one category but Congrats team water. Though try not to kill us so hard next time Big Man Fans like damn xD
Yeah, the complete sweeps are kinda downers for the other two teams. Makes it feel like wasted effort and there’s less excitement when it isn’t a close race.

Wait, I thought these first three splatfests were worldwide and not regional and the final score was tallied from all regions. Why are you counting the final result from each region separate?
Oh wow! I was on Team Fire, but I cannot be mad about this. Congratulations Team Water, and congratulations Big Man!! I'm very impressed you guys won since you were the defending team, let alone that you got all four categories! Good job.
i knew we would win because grass definitely wasn't popular enough so we'd go 15-0-30 after losing open to shiver.
i didn't think we'd fucking earn the entire pool of points available. what a fucking comeback from the last two post-midterm losses holy fucking shit.
yeah i thought that fire had a real good shot at taking popularity but even then we'd have 15-10-20 results at worst. big man already took conch shells and there was no way he was going to lose pro with all of his players wanting to flee there after being put on tricolor defense again. shiver being put on grass basically doomed her to get 15 points at best and against all odds that didn't even manage to work out for her.
I'm proud of my grassy boys, despite having 22% of the popularity votes we managed to stay even with everyone else! Gg guys! Congrats to water! Mudkip is a precious bean
GGs to both Water and Grass. Grass must have been full of ubersquids to come out second in all categories despite only having 25% of the votes. Def got trounced by Water on the regular as well.
*looks at the comment*
*See that people are thinking Frye will win next*
*Realizing that people are actually picking the idol vs the item*
*Questions splatfest in general*
Me and Frye lost… that okay we gonna go enjoy food with our Fire/ghost pokemon! While I do so I’ll ask her when her amiibo will be out haha!!
Edit: typo
Were you offline? My feed has been blowing up about Splatfest for at least a week. You should sub here if you’re not already, there are also communities on other platforms.
I know this may not work for your schedule but I always log in at least once to see if there’s any news and to grab my “first win” daily catalog bonus even if I’m not gonna be playing long. The three minute games require much less investment than something like a BR
Hell yeah, go Team Wotah!!! Proud to say I’m still undefeated in Splatoon 3 splatfests!
Good game, Team Shiver and Team Fryre. Y’all definitely didn’t make it easy.
I picked Fire because I always pick the choice I believe in instead of my favorite idol. That said, Big Man is my favorite idol so seeing him win and being happy feels like an absolute win, too. Congrats Water!
The prophecy has been fulfilled! THE CURSE HAS BEEN LIFTED!^^^^for ^^^^now...
I didn't want to jinx Team Water by saying it during the Splatfest, but I did have a strong feeling we were going to win just because of how consistently good my teammates were compared to the past couple Splatfests. We were even consistently winning the dreaded Tricolor defense matches!
GG all, and well done on the wash-out sweep team Water!
I picked Water myself (I've repped each Idol's team now, figured Big Man would get the popularity vote and halftime lead, wanted to try defending in Tricolor for a change) but I did NOT expect the first full sweep Splatfest to happen so soon, and to be on the winning team no less!
Team Grass and Fire did awesome, too tough! I genuinely think every match I played was super hard fought by everyone, no free victories in the slightest (barring the occasional disconnect)!
Overall, even if Water hadn't won, I'm glad I was able to get the 10 Tricolor Defender Victories badge in a single fest. Those matches are BRUTAL, and the majority of the Tricolor matches I actually got were crushing defeats... and that one I disconnected at the 1-minute mark with 2 hours left in the Splatfest with my team at 40% covered and needing 3 more wins for the badge... It was a close call on that achievement!
Rambling aside, well played everyone!
Hell yeah!! WATER DOMINATED!
I was so close to picking Shiver's Grass just because I've won with her for the previous 2, but something told me to pick Water this time around and holy shit...
Won in all categories!?
Good job Water crew!!
Yeah, this is how it feels after pretty much every Splatfest looking back at all the doomsayers from the winning team. I get that people are posting from their viewpoint and venting and all that but not a single one of us sees the big picture simply because we can't. There's literally millions of players, we're not gonna play with every single one of them or see all of their viewpoints.
As a team Grass member I'd like to congratulate team water for their Splatfest win! You fought hard and in the end you got the win. Team fire, you tried your best and that's what counts! I can tell you guys fought hard as well! Ggs all around! Here's to next Splatfest 🍻
Sorta assume the toxicity won't stop lol. A lot of peoples' opinions I saw online were a bit much. Maybe next Splatfest we can band together to get Frye a win too lol.
Looks like the Shiver train has ended. Ah, well, good while it lasted. GG!
(Also, in all seriousness, if we ignore the cross-promotion, we need more 'Fests like this one; Even questions that come down entirely to personal preferences. While I can enjoy Deep Cut as a trio, the 'deserted island' question was so heavily loaded in Shiver's favor that it wasn't even funny)

40% pick rate for Water. 💀 That’ll do it.

Frye gonna repeat that animation every month ☹️
Nah, now that big man got his win, I think Frye is next.
That's only if people vote for her, her team is always the least popular
But she was on second place in the Popular Vote this time.
I'm surprised fire wasn't picked more honestly. I figured that was going to be the most popular.
We shall make sure Frye wins. I will stand with her until I run out of money to throw at Nintendo
To be fair Big Man earned it, Big Man is da best
For a moment I though we lost
Too big to fail.
Dude thinks they’ll give us a splatfest every month…
I'd love monthly splatfests but I'm just waiting for big run lol we better get that soon
was on water and I was absolutely flabbergasted
Fr I won like 1/20 games I played 💀
i lost so many it took forever to get to ruler😹 i also played like 7 tri color and lost every.single.one.
I was just trying to get to ruler but it took me 4 hours It’s all the more insulting when you lose but then the game says you got #1 splatter and #1 turf inker

That me, I'm Big Man's strongest warrior I think I won the majority of the rounds I played, even for Tricolor (But I'm not sure) I did it for Big Man!
We literally got the Big Man Sweep. I am so happy.
No way i thought we'd lost this one
Same here. I went to sleep after the splatfest ended thinking we were doomed. Got woken up by my phone and a bunch of “BIG MAN SWEEP” texts from a sibling. Jumped out of bed and here I am.
I wish I had your sibling
Nearly every tri color battle we lost it felt like. GG guys!
[удалено]
GG from team grass
To be honest, team grass was scaring me y’all aggressive AGGRESSIVE
From the Tri-Turf Wars I fought, I saw a lot of geniuses on your side. Between holding it down in the middle and knowing exactly when to deny or gain Turf, you guys really fought for this sweep.
Tricolor marches were my favorites because of how smart almost everyone was playing. As an attacker it was nice to have to think on actual strategies to approach
You really gonna call grass aggressive? Have you seen how much water and fire hated us! I swear, I had to give my all against you guys!
LEGIT. I felt so targeted in every Tri color battle just cause I was grass, we’d be in last for turf percentage and still getting dumped on. That said, gg everyone! Was a fun time
Grass was something else, not taking any chances D:
I feel this. I resorted to playing Dapple and tossing beacons under the bridge and just continuously make runs for the ultra signal. I never got close otherwise.
I feel like grass won most of the tricolors I was in *shrug*
Fr tho! I had multiple tri color matches where team water had like three people in our base even though fire was clearly in the lead
This is literally exactly what i went through during tri color! it was maddening water just hated us for no reason every game
I love bulbasaur I would die for bulbasaur
Grass motivation is no joke
I thought this about team fire!! They were legit scary aggressive in every match I played lol
GG, can't believe we won it all. Hope everyone had fun!
Sorry guys. I was out of town this weekend and couldn’t play - fire(d) guy
Now, the "TRICOLOR DEFENDERS ARE CURSED TO LOSE" theory is dead in the water :D Not only a win, but a SWEEP.
New doomsayer post; The most popular team has won 3/3 so far! If you don't get most popular just give up!
That's absolutely what will happen
Reverse Popularity Strats? Nah fam, we're in the era of Popularity Strats now.
"dead in the water" Pun intended? (say yes)
"yes"
Exactly. I could hire you as my personal assistant, seems like you've got it! :D
He could have said that is was a *wash* instead of a sweep though. Disappointed.
Pun absolutely intended, good job matey!
Honestly the layout change to Sturgeon Shipyard made so much difference and helped it feel a lot more balanced.
Oh so it was different? I thought it might have been but I wasn't certain it had changed from the testfire. They cut the left side route to mid from the attacker sides, I think?

I really think the map changing really helped, defense was wayyyy easier this time and that decided the end
18 wins, 16 losses in tri-colour as a defender this splatfest. My win rate in tri-colour was a lot better than in splatfest turf war. No idea what people are talking about when they say attackers have the advantage.
I went 0-9 in tricolor, and was a lot better in 4v4 on both days. Attackers didn't have as much of an advantage but man, I have skill issues.
**edit:** People have replied saying that the scoring system Gem analyzes in this video is outdated. If that’s the case, it explains a lot. shout out to the 6+ water teams I faced who dcd as soon as they saw it was tricolor
THE BIG MAN SWEEP IS REAL!
CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER!
SO HIGH!!!
BIG MAN SWEEP!
MY HYDRO HOMIES
HYDRO HOMIES FOR THE WIN
We did it!!!! Big Man finally won this month splatfest, I am so excited and happy that we finally let big man win right guys.
Big Man is the best!! I'm glad we finally won. I've been loyal to Big Man past three splatfests so I'm glad our work finally paid off
YESSSS LETS GOOOOOOO
Ay!
💙💙💙
I'm honestly a bit sad that we didn't even win one category but Congrats team water. Though try not to kill us so hard next time Big Man Fans like damn xD
Frye will end up being the villain in Splatoon 4 I swear xo)
id be down for it, honestly.
I feel like I worked so hard the bitter taste of defeat.
Yeah, the complete sweeps are kinda downers for the other two teams. Makes it feel like wasted effort and there’s less excitement when it isn’t a close race.
Ay ay! (We won this time but it's Frye's turn next! You guys put up a good fight :) )
And y’all were complaining Big Man wouldn’t win cause of tri-color defending. Good job, team water! - Team fire
For me being on fire, it actually felt pretty balanced this splatfest. Im also glad to see big man get his will deserved W.
I was worried due to how the others went, but tricolor felt really balanced to me. I played 26 total games and won 15 of them.
I felt that the map this time was much better than the last one for the defenders.

Wait, I thought these first three splatfests were worldwide and not regional and the final score was tallied from all regions. Why are you counting the final result from each region separate?
Rock vs Paper vs Scissors was regional, the other two were both global though
> water and water and water water You have the objectively correct opinion about this result.
Oh wow! I was on Team Fire, but I cannot be mad about this. Congratulations Team Water, and congratulations Big Man!! I'm very impressed you guys won since you were the defending team, let alone that you got all four categories! Good job.
The Big Man fans said “I’ve had ENOUGH.”
Nah, I’m a shiver fan but I love water types too much to give grass types the win. GG though, y’all had me raging 💚💙
I'm here for Sprigatito, but I've always been a water type specialist at heart
I'll always be a Shiver fan but I can't pick favorites when voting.
god damn right we did!!
We broke through the shiver abuse lol
woo 🥳 had so much fun playing, this was my first full splatfest since anarchy vs order, i love the tricolor mode!!
Can't believe I missed chaos vs order it looked sick
was sick, id love to relive it. i miss shifty stations sooo much
Shifty stations made for tricolor (Would have to be triangle-shaped instead of the traditional rectangle) would be sick
GG everyone! 🥳 Good to know that being tricolor defender doesn’t mean automatic loss!
7/10 too much water
Big Mans Weep? No BIG MAN SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!
Team Fire here, and... *ouch*. We got drenched. GG, Water and Grass.
GG! Grass was set on fire.
We did great, team water 🥳
BIG MAN SWEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i knew we would win because grass definitely wasn't popular enough so we'd go 15-0-30 after losing open to shiver. i didn't think we'd fucking earn the entire pool of points available. what a fucking comeback from the last two post-midterm losses holy fucking shit.
I was surprised as all hell that team fire didn't get any of the points, but I'm still happy for Big Man! Good for him!
yeah i thought that fire had a real good shot at taking popularity but even then we'd have 15-10-20 results at worst. big man already took conch shells and there was no way he was going to lose pro with all of his players wanting to flee there after being put on tricolor defense again. shiver being put on grass basically doomed her to get 15 points at best and against all odds that didn't even manage to work out for her.
Had a feeling grass would win, but it was fun for the most part
Frye gotta win next month
That's not a Water Win, THATS A WATER SWEEP
Third splatfest in a row where the team I picked ended up with 0 points 😭 GGs though.
I'm proud of my grassy boys, despite having 22% of the popularity votes we managed to stay even with everyone else! Gg guys! Congrats to water! Mudkip is a precious bean
WATER SWEEP LET’S GOOOO
Damn that was fast
Water played amazing this Splatfest, after I saw they won sneak peek and popularity I knew it was over lmao
BIG MAN WON. BIG MAN WON!!!
Great job team water! 👍 (From a team grass player [and frye simp but that doesn't matter])
GGs to both Water and Grass. Grass must have been full of ubersquids to come out second in all categories despite only having 25% of the votes. Def got trounced by Water on the regular as well.

# #BIGMANSWEEP
How did grass beat fire in pro? I played like 8 hours of pro today and didn't match with grass once.

*looks at the comment* *See that people are thinking Frye will win next* *Realizing that people are actually picking the idol vs the item* *Questions splatfest in general*
I can’t believe we actually won
I completely did not expect us to get ALL the points
Congrats! Y’all were scary to go up against. Lots of respect. - Team Grass
# B I G M A N S W E E P
Me and Frye lost… that okay we gonna go enjoy food with our Fire/ghost pokemon! While I do so I’ll ask her when her amiibo will be out haha!! Edit: typo
common big man W
Well, not *that* common.
Wait shit this already happened, I though this was next week 😔
Were you offline? My feed has been blowing up about Splatfest for at least a week. You should sub here if you’re not already, there are also communities on other platforms. I know this may not work for your schedule but I always log in at least once to see if there’s any news and to grab my “first win” daily catalog bonus even if I’m not gonna be playing long. The three minute games require much less investment than something like a BR
GGs, Team Water! You guys played great!
Soooo can we get tricolor back in its original occurrence rate?
Can't believe I'm getting emotional over this silly squid game. I thought I'd bungled it all up, but I'm just glad I was able to help my team win!
As a team fire member I failed the hospital guy, GG either way
Big Man.... I HAVE MADE YOU PROUD 😭😭😭
Big man actually swept-
The Big Man sweep!!
AY! (BIG MAN SWEEP!)
AY!
LETS GO FINALLY GG EVERYONE
As a team grass I'm happy for team water! All the rounds were so close
GG Love Team Fire <3
 Ay (We done it)
Shiver I’ve failed you, and for this I will never forgive myself
As a Fire Member, I am satisfied. Deserved after all the Big Man fans had to defend 3 times. Hoping Frye wins soon!
The Big Man... THE BIG MAN SWEEP IS REAL!!
THE BIG MAN SWEEP IS REAL!!! (can we get much higher?)
Well done, Team Water. You guys were handing my ass to me in the tri color battles
GG Big Man!!
WE DID IT BOYS
BIG MAN SWEEP
Now all the doom and gloom posts from Team Water just look silly in hindsight lmao.
Let's fucking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Noice 3/3 lol
I was in shock. I knew y’all were good but not THAT good
Wow, water swept?!?! Awesome job everyone! I still can’t believe we won! 😁
They actually pulled off the sweep! GGs team water!
Dam did water just get ALL the points? I thought we were good, but not THAT good!
As a team Grass member I'd like to congratulate team water for their Splatfest win! You fought hard and in the end you got the win. Team fire, you tried your best and that's what counts! I can tell you guys fought hard as well! Ggs all around! Here's to next Splatfest 🍻
Ahahaha, wow, there wasn't any chance for the rest of us! Good job, Water. (Fuecoco is still the cutest of the three, though...)
I voted based on my overall fav, not Scarlet and Violet. If it had been the starters then Fuecoco would’ve been my go-to
BIG MAN SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
Redemption!!! Third times the charm for Big man!!!
Holy landslide
Shout out to my Scissors/Grub/Grass (and Fire) We doing okay? Wanna get some snacks and some water?
So next splatfest there can be less hate towards Shiver? I wasn't even on her team and I felt like it was toxic.
Sorta assume the toxicity won't stop lol. A lot of peoples' opinions I saw online were a bit much. Maybe next Splatfest we can band together to get Frye a win too lol.
Great work everyone!
Jebus Team Water with that tidal wave sweep gg from Team Grass you guys fought with everything you had!!!
WE FINALLY WON!?!?!?!?!
WATER TRIBEEEEEEEE!!!!!
TEAM WATER TSUNAMI!
I’m surprised water was considerably more popular than fire.
I knew we had some savages in water but didn’t expect to take all points.
congratulations water, from team fire <3 i just hope frye gets a victory soon 🙁
I knew there was hope we could win. I wasn't expecting a full on sweep tho!! The votes felt pretty balanced to me, only 1 mirror match
The Big Man sweep! The Big Man sweep is real!
