Thanks! That’s where I first saw it and I’ve been obsessed ever since! I need to keep an eye on next time they have a sale so I can get one. I have dreams of it spreading Jumanji-style throughout my greenhouse.
My variegated is much smaller than my regular vanilla planifolia also. I am wondering if the variegation makes it less able to feed itself, or if it is just the difference in varieties. They both look like they are doing well!
Technically yes it would have slowed growth due to the variegation. But I believe it’s mostly just the size of the mother vine that it’s cut from that has to do with how big they are. I have an imperialis that’s big and thick like op’s pictured above and I have a normal planifolia that’s the same height but is way thinner and has smaller leaves like op’s variegated.
Edit: I could be wrong though and imperialis are just monsters compared to the others haha. But I believe I’ve seen other people with regular planifolia cuttings just as thick and large leaved.
Good to know! My planifolia is a monster, I have had it for years, and canes have gotten thicker with age, but were always much thicker than my fairly new variegated one
ARGHHH WHERE DID YOU GET THAT VANILLA IMPERIALIS! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR SO LONG! MY JEALOUSY IS A BLAZING FURNACE!
Huntington Library botanical gardens in Pasadena during their plant sale. It’s actually a cutting of their massive mother plant in their greenhouse.

Thicc
It’s like that movie “Twins”
The one on the left almost looks unreal.
