No, taxes are a way to fund the government. The suppressive part is that people and companies that make the most amount of money have loopholes to pay less than those making substantially less. Taxes aren’t the issue, it’s how and who is taxed and in what way. Then how that money is spent is an entirely different issue because there is a lot of waste. Ask anyone about the reality of government waste, it’s ridiculous. Not to mention the government blank checks any purchases that have to do with IT or cyber security and buys complicated hardware and software they don’t even use most of the time just to have it thrown away decades later.

A person on min wage wont suddenly be able to pay rent with taxes gone

You're so fucking stupid, and American. You think because you guys can't figure it out it's shitty. There are plenty of countries with much higher tax rates that do much better by there people with Healthcare and education and robust social safety nets. Fuck in the Netherlands they give the physically disabled money to see prostitutes. Taxation is fine, your American culture/values are shit. Keep taking pride in being the most ignorant people on earth

BitchinIndika

This is a truly stupid take if you expect to continue living in a functional society at all. Be smarter than that. Taxes are fine. They are the reason we have nice things, like roads and water and schools. Posts like this are the reason the sentiments expressed in this sub will never be taken seriously.

The government is supposed to be 'of the people, by the people, for the people'. The government is supposed to be our counter balance to corporate power. somewhere along the line, the line has been blurred and the corporations and government hooked up to fuck us. This does not illustrate an issue with the government, per se, it illustrates an issue with the overall system that does not punish the participating members when this happens So this does not illustrate a problem with taxes, but it illustrates a deeper issue with the overall system

>The government is supposed to be 'of the people, by the people, for the people'. The government is supposed to be our counter balance to corporate power. The thing is, its not and cant be. A government is meant to rule. It literally cant be for or by the people since it rules over the people. Corporations themselves only exist due to the government protecting them. Without the state capitalism has no monopoly on violence to protect itself.

Inflation also

First off I’m assuming you’re a USian, same as me. I make this assumption because we do a particularly bad job of both collecting taxes and spending them. The rich people in this country have written our tax code and shifted much of the burden onto people like us. That politicians can be legally bribed in the form of “campaign contributions” is absolutely a cudgel to keep us down, but taxes are just the costs of running the country. Taxes build roads and pay firefighters. Taxes run the Post Office and public libraries. They ought to pay teachers a decent wage and feed school kids, but they don’t because they’re being bled off to let police departments buy used military hardware that defense contractors -already sold to taxpayers once.- Taxes ought to fund universal healthcare in this country but that would cost a half a dozen people a whole lot of money. Instead we spend this money on shit like corporate bailouts and stealing native land for oil pipelines we don’t need. Taxes are -not- the problem. That taxes are not spent in the interest of most of the people that actually pay them is a -huge- problem, but the concept of broad, fair taxation is one of the cornerstones of a functioning democracy.

Taxes are generally bad and are the state taking even more from the labor it coerces from you in the first place. They should be abolished along with capitalism.

BitchinIndika

This is the most colossally stupid - like, truly brain-dead - thing I've ever read. Tell me, genius, how does your little fantasy society work without taxes? Never mind, the question is rhetorical, there's no way you've thought that far ahead.

ComaCrow

You realize this server is anarchist/communist and there’s no state collecting taxes in our vision of society right?

BitchinIndika

So you really are that stupid. Neat.

ComaCrow

Not my fault you haven’t thought about how our society would look like at all

BitchinIndika

Ok then. Do explain, in detail, how your little fantasy world works.

ComaCrow

Anti-work is anti coercive labor, which requires the abolishment of capitalism and class. There is no ruling class to take taxes.

BitchinIndika

Yeah ok edgelord. So how does this magic system of yours work exactly?

ComaCrow

What do you mean "how does this system work" lmao. Like, you need to be more specific. If you want an intro into communism/anarchism maybe look into Malatesta? If you want something more anti-work focused there is a shit load of anarchist theory in the Sub's library. IDK maybe read the sidebar/FAQ before coming in here to call anti-work people idiots for daring to not want the state taking even more of their shit
