Story mode for me was amazing, the later challenges were hard (not mentioning The Secret Kettle) and I hope the DLC continues on and explores more lore.
I’m impressed that I can turn my switch on, open the game, and be playing within a minute. Splatoon 2 was awesome but that opening news was brutal and such a turn off from opening the game.
👍🏼
Yea it's a fun game 25% of the time when I can actually play a full match without being booted by the servers.. What's the point of spending $60 on a game if I cant even play it because Nintendo's servers are so awful?
As a new player to the series this game is dog shit and if it not for the worst connection I've ever seen in my life it's the people that don't even know how to play the game don't even paint the ground yet they are supposby ranking people towards your level except I'm constantly getting newbies on my team while vs full on gear squads everything about this game is ass
All of these complaints have been a problem with every version of Splatoon. It'll get better as people that are trying it out drop off leaving mostly people that want to actually try and patches come.
I feel like the stuff it has improved on has been done well. Not being forced to watch the intro when the maps update, two types of ranked battle so you don't need to wait for the one you dislike to rotate out again (looking at you clam blitz). An interactive lobby whilst you wait for a match. A better focus on playing with friends.
On the other hand, constant communication errors and being kicked from a match if someone disconnects whereas before it would allow 3v4s. Not sure if this is only if the host player disconnects though.
Basically what's good feels really good and what's bad feels really bad
Same. I literally FINISHED a game, and i got "disconnected" at the very end of a match, after the results/scoreboards were shown. Didn't count the win + got banned for 30 mins. What the fuck.
First time playing Splatoon. It's a really fun game. But I'm terrible. I'm using motion controls as I move seen suggested. Should I up the sensitivity?
So far I’m stuck on a site 2 glitch. Got all the sardines, says i don’t. There’s only three. 2 boxes, and a boss battle. Did them. Boss battle twice. Still says incomplete. Cant go to site 3 until this is resolved due to OCD. this sucks. I’ve watched multiple YouTube videos hours long. I have eveything. But it’s glitched.
Look at your map. Are there any green areas of interest remaining? Throw your Salmonoid in those areas to find any hidden things.
I can say with certainty that they give you exactly enough sardines to unlock everything.
Overall been fun. Like a lot of the new updates so far, music is good, a lot of the new maps are great
The fact that theyre still doing 2 maps every two hours, and sometimes two *old* maps, and only 1 map the entire day for Salmon Run, is absolutely unacceptable. Even for Nintendo thats unbelievably lazy
Aside from that Im enjoying it, especially being able to play with friends now
I never really hated the 2 map thing. After playing a certain map for a little while, I start feeling really good about the map… Then it switches, and I have to get used to the two new maps. Haha…
I get that it's annoying I don't like it either but it's not 'lazy' in fact they made the choice to design and implement it. I'm sure it would of been easier (lazy) to just put all maps on rotation and be done with it.
Its absolutely lazy. Or cheap. They didnt want to program it in because it was either too much work or too expensive.
Theres reason zero for it. None. No one actually likes it. Its lazy ass Nintendo being lazy
It's literally more effort to implement than shuffling all maps. It isn't laziness, it's a conscious design choice. Don't know for what purpose though. I guess it gives you enough time to acclimatise to and learn those maps in a session?
You don't need two hours to do that and playing the maps regularly shuffled has the same effect anyway
I guarantee you it's saving Nintendo a tiny bit of money or something and that's why they're doing it
It's not about saving money, it's to force the community into the same maps for a larger matchmaking pool and to prevent people from dropping out of a stage they don't like.
Essentially, the idea is that it forces us to take what we get because we don't have any other choice. Beggars can't be choosers
> it's to force the community into the same maps for a larger matchmaking pool and to prevent people from dropping out of a stage they don't like.
As opposed to leaving and finding something else to do because I don't want to play the same map for the 30th time?
Yeah. Someone leaving the game and finding something else to do for a while is much better than someone constantly leaving their team because they don’t like the level, tbh…
They already penalize you for dropping out of the game so its a non-issue anyway
I have never once in my life ever heard anyone complain about another online shooter that the levels are mixing up too much. Ever. It's always complaining when you keep getting the same maps. People like variety
Some people will still leave because they don’t want to play that level. And for the ones that don’t leave, some just let the game sit for three minutes while doing something else. People are petty sometimes…
As for not hearing about it, that doesn’t matter much. Just because you don’t hear people complaining doesn’t mean people don’t complain. While I may not complain about it, for example, I sometimes wish certain games had level pools like this. If the level pool had ones I didn’t like, I’d do something else and come back later. And when it had levels I’d like, I’d play it more… Considering there are levels I like to avoid in the Splatoon series, I like how they do levels… Ans you still get variety. It’s just not every level all at once. I like the design choice, tbh… Variety good. But having that variety split so that you get certain levels at certain times is always good…
I'm just explaining their reasoning and how it isn't to somehow make extra money. Nintendo isn't known for the competitive multiplayer crowd, so they wanted to avoid people not being able to fill a match because they're all spread out across different matches or dropping out of a match because they want to play a different level. On average, more people will just pay the level that is available, which means matches that are more reliably filled, making the game not seem like a ghost town.
Even if you are the kind of person that will leave and play another game because you don't like the current map, you would still at least come back later to play a different map.
If they didn't do this, and you couldn't play at all because you couldn't fill a match - when you turned the game off you'd be far more likely to never even turn it back on because it felt empty.
It's about consolidating the smaller multiplayer crowd so that the game doesn't feel empty, so you'll either take what's available or return later.
To be fair, that is just a design choice, has nothing to do with laziness. And somehow, limiting the variety actually increases the variety, since this way all the maps get their time to shine. Buuut, I understand the divisiveness, if you don't like it, fair.
I feel 2 hours is a good time… 1 hour would barely give me time to get use to it before they switch… And that’s still 12 different sets a day. And it helps people when a favorite level is there. I’ve had days where my two favorite levels were both there. And the two hour limit felt too short. It’s design choice, as others have said. Not everyone’s going to like it. But there are also many who do…
How? A match is like 3 minutes, with like a couple of minutes in between at most, meaning you're playing the same two levels a good 20 times total. It's *way* too much. No other game in the world does this, and for good reason, it's mind numbingly repetitive
20 times means about 10 times each. And that’s assuming you don’t get disconnected, and that you find a team in a timely matter. That’s enough time to play each some and get use to it. 10 times on one level isn’t even that much time, tbh… At least, it never really feels like it. I’d probably prefer more games to do this, tbh… and no matter what, it’s going to get repetitive. You going to end up playing all the maps lots of times regardless… It can also help so that people get time to play the levels. Not everybody can play the full 2 hours. And stuff. I personally don’t see 2 hours as long. 4 (like in the first one) was long. 2 seems like a good amount, though…
> 20 times means about 10 times each.
Which is *way* too much. 5 is pushing it.
If you play a game enough you're going to recognize the levels anyway. Paired with the fact that most of these maps are old maps anyways. It's not like there's anything that complex about them, they're symmetrical maps and you run around and paint, they're incredibly simple.
>Not everybody can play the full 2 hours.
Then making maps go for 2 hours isn't going to teach them how to play it anyway. The people who *can* play for two hours are going to be playing long enough where they'll still learn the maps with a regular cycle
It's just Nintendo being stubborn
I disagree. About 10 times each is a good amount of times. And that 10 times each is assuming there are no disconnections, good matchmaking, and you don’t get up for anything like a bathroom break or getting a drink/snacks. It also depends on if you get there right as the two hours in starting. Or closer to the end… Not to mention, for me, time flies when I’m playing levels I like…
Even when I played the game everyday, It still took a couple of matches to get familiar again… I can get into a groove after playing it a couple of times… And they look simple, but many have different ways to play it depending on your team and weapons…
What are you talking about teaching for. It’s just giving people enough time to play the levels. 2 hours gives people enough time to play each level a few times. Especially if they couldn’t play the whole hour…
And why do you think it’s Nintendo being stubborn. Other than you, I’m not sure I’ve really heard many people complaining about this… Maybe some during the first one. I’m sure there are people who don’t like it. I’m just not sure it’s enough complaining that Nintendo felt the need to do something about it. So, this may have nothing to do with them being stubborn… Maybe they just like the levels changing this way, and most people seem fine with it…
>I disagree. About 10 times each is a good amount of times. And that 10 times each is assuming there are no disconnections, good matchmaking, and you don’t get up for anything like a bathroom break or getting a drink/snacks.
Im factoring that in. If its straight one match to another its more
>Even when I played the game everyday, It still took a couple of matches to get familiar again… I can get into a groove after playing it a couple of times… And they look simple, but many have different ways to play it depending on your team and weapons…
>
>What are you talking about teaching for. It’s just giving people enough time to play the levels. 2 hours gives people enough time to play each level a few times.
Cycling through all of them does the exact same thing. Youre getting exposed to levels one way or another
>
>And why do you think it’s Nintendo being stubborn.
Because Nintendo is stubborn as fuck, and I have definitely heard other people complain about it. Its been a major complaint even from professional reviewers since day 1 of the franchise. Nintendo doesnt like to go back on their decisions
Cycling through all of them doesn’t help, though… There have been plenty of games where even while cycling through all the levels, I might not get one for a couple of days. Or only once in some days. With having only two, I know that for those two hours, I’ll be getting exposed to the two that are there… I know I’ll get some practice. When switching between all stages of a game, I’m barely getting any real practice in… Once the match is over, who knows when I’ll see it next… With having two at a time, I have a 50-50 chance of it being next… Until the time limit is up… I won’t get into the groove of a level if I play 5 or 10 other levels before playing that level again… Playing one or two, I can keep it. But after like 5 levels, it’s like I haven’t even played it today…
I’ve heard maybe a couple of people complaining about it for the first game… But not much since then. Even if this topic, I saw multiple complaints about the intro on the way to this complaint. And Nintendo has fixed that. Probably because enough people complained about it. Which shows they aren’t always stubborn. Maybe this isn’t getting the amount of complaints it would take for Nintendo to need to change it. I mean, they already moved down from 4 to 2 hours. So, Day 1 complaints don’t matter anymore since the franchise did change from longer hours to shorter hours between games. Doesn’t seem stubborn if they are trying to change things that people complained about. So being stubborn doesn’t really make any sense…
That said, they could be stubborn, which is within their rights, as well… It is their game… And as others have said, maybe they are doing it for a specific reason. You assume it’s has to do with money of laziness, but that’s an assumption. And since it’s actually more work to not to rotate through them all, chances are it’s not laziness… As for money, I’m not sure how that would even save them money…
Literally close out to the Home menu for a few seconds and then back in. Used to use it to reconnect in Splatoon 2 but now it completely disconnects from the queue so, new workaround lol
There should also be a button, I think + or - ?
Is your weapon supposed to not have sound effects? I can hear other players’ weapons when they’re close to me but mine doesn’t make any sound. I don’t know if it’s a glitch or just how the game is. I thought maybe one of my speakers was out but they’re all working and if I switch over to the tv speakers I still can’t hear my weapon.
They removed the ability to view the level of other players, and I find that really annoying.
Otherwise it's a great game, but feels disappointing to me. It's polished, looks great. They improved a lot, as everyone has mentioned. Added more single player, which I haven't gotten through yet. Little fun things that some people may like, such as the lockers, etc. Overall they did do a pretty good job. If you're new to the franchise, I think this is a great place to step in.
I just feel disappointed as a returning player because when I'm actually playing...it still just feels exactly like splatoon 2. I wish there was some twist or added...something. The new climbing move or twist while swimming, I don't use a ton yet (maybe it will become apparant later that it's more useful), and yes there's a couple new weapons. I mean cool? But still feels like splatoon 2.
How do they get away with continuing to use so many of the same maps, by the way? I mean I like some of them, but I can't imagine other games releasing 3 games and using some of the same maps in each?
Basically, it's a great game, but not one that I feel is different enough that I feel excited that I waited so many years for. I played for a few hours and it was nice, but usually when I get a brand new game I just want to keep playing. After exploring all the new features, I was like meh. I'll play it when I would have felt like playing splatoon 2 in general. 🤷🏽♂️
I will say that I didn't realize how much I would appreciate the replay feature. That is pretty great. When someone is playing super well, I can replay and watch the map from their point of view. That was a great add. Watched someone use a stringer weapon to see their approach.
Keep in mind that Splatoon 2 launched with only 8 stages, 6 of them being new. It was only after years of updates that we got the total of 23 stages (plus the shifty station variations). The stages are there, and they work, so why not use them?
I agree that a lot of it feels like more of the same, but that just means that it's a formula that works.
Maybe? If it works then why create another game then? I mean that's rhetorical because I know why they did. They improved it and had to rework it and couldn't do that all through patches to Splatoon 2. But that's why it feels slightly meh, at least to me. Because it's better, and then what? I honestly would have been happy to just keep playing Sp2, and they could patch in an update to skip the obnoxious intro show. Like I said, I do like Splatoon 3, it's just not what I feel like we waited so long for.
Ia it just me or online connectivity is bad? For half of my games either me or someone else gets dc. I already got a 40 min ban. Im playing on americas/aus/nz region btw.
This is my first splatoon game and after checking r/splatoon , I honestly cant tell if having bad online is just a meme or really a nintendo issue for all games
It’s just OK. The hosts are a downgrade. The city is a downgrade in terms of charm. The game otherwise is exactly the same more or less as Splatoon 2. Nintendo, stop being lazy and improve your hardware so a great game like Splatoon can really shine.
They really should've wait for switch 2 to release the successor to Splatoon 2. Visually and gameplay wise they're damn near identical.
It's the same game as 2 with extra weapons and maps. Nothing a DLC can't add to the already great second game.
I get it they want to make money but that's why I'm skipping this one.
If you buy physical and then later move on to digital, do you think the save stays the same ?
Wonder since its saved in their cloud, i guess nobody knows for sure, still asking :P
I did that for Splatoon 2. Forgot the game card during a Splatfest weekend, so I bought digital, then traded in my physical copy later.
Considering the large amount of updates that this game will get, digital made more sense to me.
I've never done it before, but I could see why for a game like this. I have the physical for Splatoon 2 because I like how it looks, but it's kind of annoying to swap the cartridge. The majority of my games are digital. If at some point it became too annoying, I could see how someone would keep the physical and then buy digital so they don't have to get up to change anything. (Personally I'm not spending 120 dollars on it, but some prob would.)
Yeah Best Buy was supposed to give me a keychain but didn’t until I showed them articles of it. They got it sorted out and gave me a keychain in the end though.
That happened with my copy of Metroid Dread. It was supposed to come with a set of decals.
I believe the store gets a bag of the preorder bonuses, and are supposed to put them with the in store pickup orders, but employees aren't specifically told this.
Yeah, I got mine on Amazon from Nintendo, no bonus. Didn't care, I thought all the bonuses were dumb. I believe Walmart had a Nintendo plushie type of thing I would have wanted, but I literally have the exact same one I got on ebay years ago. The only one I would have tried for was the gym bag, but that was only in the UK, unfortunately.
Yeah, i mean, im not really upset over it or anything. It would have been cool to have the keychain to put on my motorcycle keys for specific reasons, but eh.
Its more just the principle of it and, if this happen to a series i would have cared much more about.. say.. Zelda, i would have raised a stink about it.
Totally get that. And if they're doing pre orders in a lot of places, sucks to not get one. And yeah I could see a keychain being nice for some people, just didn't speak to me personally, but that's too bad you didn't get one. Did they run out?
Who’s playing?
**Who’s loving it??**
I want to know if Nintendo finally figured out online play and you can make friends in this game?
My switch gaming is lonely.
I played for an hour yesterday, like it so far. My first Splatoon experience. I jumped right into online and really suck at it so I will do some single player today to actually learn how to play.
It’s get easier. When I first played, I could barely keep up with anything… Now, I’m going around destroying everything in my path (according to my buddy). Haha…
You can always be on the same team for turf war by making a room and they join it.
Salmon Run is always open.
So yeah it's way better for friends to play together.
Enjoying it so far, lucky enough to not have ran into too many comms errors. Maybe 1 game in 15 i run into one of those messages. Hopefully that's fixed for others who experience it more.
The multiplayer being similar to 2 reminds me somewhat of the jump from Smash Wii U to Ultimate. There isn't a massive difference in the core gameplay between the titles, but that isn't a bad thing. 3 doesn't reinvent the wheel and it doesn't need to. The metaphorical cake is baked, they've added some extra cream, icing and the end product is tasty.
The pre game lobby set up, post game statistics and the modes being more evenly rostered among other aspects are a massive improvement adding to the QoL.
Does the pregame lobby let you queue with friends? Instead of Splatoon 2 where you have to join after the game starts. And does it still shuffle all the players instead of letting you play with your friends?
Played about 5 hours so far and I love it. All the new content and QOL is great. This game makes splatoon 2 pretty much redundant, it feels like it improved over everything.
I played a bit last night, and my switch started buzzing (or whatever noise makes that fan). In docked mode. Anyone else has a problem with overheating?
Now that you mention it, I had no issues with the pre-release Splatfest. I can still get into matches 1 out of 4 attempts or so, but I get a lot of comm errors. Seems like fewer errors for Salmon Run for me though
Idk if it's just me but online is literally unplayable I'm getting constant communication errors I haven't been able to play a match yet it's extremely aggravating
It's not just you (various posts and comments about it on r/splatoon also), but it's also not everyone. I have had three communication errors across about seventy matches (didn't do much else yesterday!).
I'm in Europe and use wired internet (V2 Switch with a Hori LAN adapter). I wonder if it's the wired connection that makes things more stable, though I believe the errors may happen if someone else disconnects. The three times I got the error was while waiting in the queue with the people from the previous round.
I dont really believe it. The communication error prompt Pops up when the player who is hosting the match leaves the game, since in P2P-Multiplayer, one player (usually chosen at random) has to act as the game host. Saying theres less communication errors would somehow imply theres less leavers now.
I didn’t know that. In that case, this is totally anecdotal. I’ve had less communication errors and assumed they “fixed” something but I guess it was just coincidence. Thanks!
I got it digitally because it's the kind of game I will play often and possibly for years. I generally get open-ended or multiplayer games digitally. My physical games are all "finishable" or shorter, except Ring Fit Adventure (which doesn't have a digital version in the west).
I personally go with physical, especially for an online multiplayer game like this. Chances are you'll eventually stop playing within the year and it will retain its value so you could sell it.
You should get physical so you can sell it after you get bored after a week. Splatoon is not a 8 or 9/10 game. I't s a 5/10 game for tweens and preteens.
Really a personal choice. If you’ve never played then physical is good in case you don’t like it you can trade/sell. That being said I like digital for games like Splatoon that are good to hop into a few matches here and there without having to change the cart.
That’s what I was thinking. I like to leave longer games in the cartridge slot (Zelda BOTW, Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey) and my random games I play in shorter spurts (Stardew Valley, Cuphead, Clubhouse Games) I like to get digital. This is the first game for me that kind of straddles those two categories. I figure I’d play it more digitally since I’ll have easier access to it. Real #firstworldproblem, but I hate changing the cartridges lol. But you are correct in stating I won’t have the chance to sell/trade if I don’t end up enjoying it.
I’ve always been a casual and only put in about 80 hours of Splatoon 2, but man do I suck. I didn’t remember ever being this bad. I suck with and without motion controls. Im like 0-10 so far with just Turf War. I had a pretty bad losing streak with splatfest too.
Its 1st day so everyone is about the same ranking with wildly different skill levels. Keep going and over time youll get better and itll get more balanced
Don’t beat yourself up bruh, I’m bootycheeks at splat too but it’s not stopping me from playing. I love that we can jump into salmon run anytime, I plan on playing that mode to relearn movement lol
Not even on the second world of the campaign, and it's already my favorite. Spoilers for the first boss: >!The first boss being DJ Octavio in a giant mech was so fucking cool, and is one of the best fights in the entire series.!<
I’ve played a few hours today, trying out turf wars, salmon run, and the card mini game. It’s really good fun. Lots of little refinements that all add up to improve the overall experience vs Splatoon 2 (which I loved and played for ~111 hours).
I haven’t even tried the single-player yet, so looking forward to trying that out soon. Octo Expansion set the bar high.
which overall refinements were made do you say? Can I queue together with a friend for turf war and play together or do I still gotta join a lobby alone and hope that someone quits in order for them to join after?
If the switch connection misteriously goes down in the middle of the game can I reconnect to the same match or does my team have to suffer and play with one less person for absolutely no reason while I wait to queue again?
You can create a group and queue for turf war together now. If another friend joins later (or reconnects) via the friends list, they are added to the group. The group always plays on the same team.
You can also still have someone queue solo and join them in the lobby (you're even prompted that a friend is waiting between matches). This still randomizes teams. My group likes this for the casual matches where we still get to shoot at each other.
You can't reconnect to your old match in progress as far as I saw. The teams are not given a loss after a disconnect, and as mentioned the match ends early if it happens right away.
Cant speak to connection issues for myself but you can 100% set up a lobby for turf war that your friends can join (with or without passcode) and then you queue up with them for turf wars, always on the same team and everything. My friends and I played 4-5 hours today and only one of us had issues with connecting, twice.
It’s the hub area. From the lobby entrance go down the stairs, take a left, take another left, go up some ramps, take a final left, and you’ll see a orange fish lady standing by a stall.
I'm on the opposite end. I've been playing exclusively single player.
Overall the progression is good, and they took a lot of cues from Octo Expansion.
I’ll be without reliable internet access for the next couple weeks so thought I’d get some multiplayer in while I can. I’m very much looking forward to the single player campaign.
Glad to hear it lives up to the bar Octo Expansion set!
You can. If you party with friends before a match, you'll always be on the same team. If you join a friend that's already playing, you'll join the group when a slot opens, but you may not always be on the same team.
They never mention clothes or gear on the import screen The pictures on [THIS](https://www.destructoid.com/the-splatoon-2-to-splatoon-3-save-data-transfer-process-is-super-simple/) article say specifically what you get when you import your profile.
Importing gives you those gold tickets so you can pick out your favorite weapons right away. You can also hop straight into Ranked modes without needing to be Level 10. It essentially lets you skip over the warm up phase that new players go through.
The import option is only for the 3 golden tickets, as well as ranked battles immediately. You get your choice of 3 weapons and ranked mode when you "import" splatoon 2 data
You can’t get your gear from splat 2. It’s just a check to see if you’ve already played the game which lets you skip ahead a bit since you don’t have to learn the basics
The import option for Splatoon 2 data in Splatoon 3 gives you 3 golden tickets (you can spend 1 on any weapon in the store, essentially you get to pick 3 weapons) and you unlock anarchy battles (normally you would grind for anarchy battle unlock instead)
Holy crap didn’t realize the release date is here already? I remember Xenoblade switching but didn’t pay attention to the date.
Kind of interested in buying it to try it, but I hate buying new full price games!
>but I hate buying new full price games!
On the upside, the game will get regular updates, two+ years of events, and a seasonal fashion catalog (free battle pass). Being there from the start does have some benefits at least.

Story mode for me was amazing, the later challenges were hard (not mentioning The Secret Kettle) and I hope the DLC continues on and explores more lore.
Why is the intro still soo long? Will multiplayer actually be balanced? Seems more of the same to me.
I was going to buy this today, but after reading these reviews I have decided to pass lol
Wise choice, I wish I had done the same
Your loss lol
I’m impressed that I can turn my switch on, open the game, and be playing within a minute. Splatoon 2 was awesome but that opening news was brutal and such a turn off from opening the game. 👍🏼
Can you turn off the intro? still long for me.
Yes I press down the left stick when the intro starts. Only had to watch it my first time and during the splat fest announcement.
Sweet thanks.
Yea it's a fun game 25% of the time when I can actually play a full match without being booted by the servers.. What's the point of spending $60 on a game if I cant even play it because Nintendo's servers are so awful?

As far as I can tell IGN has only reviewed single player at an 8
I feel like the stuff it has improved on has been done well. Not being forced to watch the intro when the maps update, two types of ranked battle so you don't need to wait for the one you dislike to rotate out again (looking at you clam blitz). Need friends for ranked i usually chat on ps or Xbox while playing because Nintendo isn’t with the times for online lol 😂 SW-6370-2769-4018
Are the graphics any different than Splatoon 2?
Anyone else having constant disconnections? I get disconnected like 3 out of 5 games.
Same. I literally FINISHED a game, and i got "disconnected" at the very end of a match, after the results/scoreboards were shown. Didn't count the win + got banned for 30 mins. What the fuck.
That would've been a refund for me
Just got banned for 70 minutes bc of those disconnections. I'm this close to ask for a refund,
I'm getting that too. My sibling would always get disconnected right at the end of a Salmon Run match with me as well.
First time playing Splatoon. It's a really fun game. But I'm terrible. I'm using motion controls as I move seen suggested. Should I up the sensitivity?
What works for me is to reduce sensitivity. This way it doesn't move too much to each accidental motion but you can still do aiming correcting with it
I wouldnt unless you decide you want to get really pro about it. Even then you can play well without it
I disabled motion controls and reduced the sensitivity so I can aim better, maybe that can work for you.
Bro I have lol. All I’m missing is a sardine. And I got all three. The boss won’t give me one , or a badge
hey, i realize you only get the boss sardines when u finish all the bosses. idk if this still helps but i have the same problem and saw ur comment lol
Overall been fun. Like a lot of the new updates so far, music is good, a lot of the new maps are great The fact that theyre still doing 2 maps every two hours, and sometimes two *old* maps, and only 1 map the entire day for Salmon Run, is absolutely unacceptable. Even for Nintendo thats unbelievably lazy Aside from that Im enjoying it, especially being able to play with friends now
I used to hate 2 maps every 2 hours but it feels good in Splatoon 3 for some reason.
You don't need two hours to do that and playing the maps regularly shuffled has the same effect anyway I guarantee you it's saving Nintendo a tiny bit of money or something and that's why they're doing it
It's not about saving money, it's to force the community into the same maps for a larger matchmaking pool and to prevent people from dropping out of a stage they don't like. Essentially, the idea is that it forces us to take what we get because we don't have any other choice. Beggars can't be choosers
This makes sense, tbh…
> it's to force the community into the same maps for a larger matchmaking pool and to prevent people from dropping out of a stage they don't like. As opposed to leaving and finding something else to do because I don't want to play the same map for the 30th time?
Yeah. Someone leaving the game and finding something else to do for a while is much better than someone constantly leaving their team because they don’t like the level, tbh…
They already penalize you for dropping out of the game so its a non-issue anyway I have never once in my life ever heard anyone complain about another online shooter that the levels are mixing up too much. Ever. It's always complaining when you keep getting the same maps. People like variety
Some people will still leave because they don’t want to play that level. And for the ones that don’t leave, some just let the game sit for three minutes while doing something else. People are petty sometimes… As for not hearing about it, that doesn’t matter much.
Its *way* two long. An hour is pushing it. Two hours is absurd. Even doing three maps would be 1000x better
The people who *can* play for two hours are going to be playing long enough where they'll still learn the maps with a regular cycle It's just Nintendo being stubborn
I disagree. About 10 times each is a good amount of times. And that 10 times each is assuming there are no disconnections, good matchmaking, and you don’t get up for anything like a bathroom break or getting a drink/snacks. It also depends on if you get there right as the two hours in starting. Or closer to the end… Not to mention, for me, time flies when I’m playing levels I like… Even when I played the game everyday, It still took a couple of matches to get familiar again… I can get into a groove after playing it a couple of times… And they look simple, but many have different ways to play it depending on your team and weapons… What are you talking about teaching for. It’s just giving people enough time to play the levels. 2 hours gives people enough time to play each level a few times. Especially if they couldn’t play the whole hour… And why do you think it’s Nintendo being stubborn.
If its straight one match to another its more >Even when I played the game everyday, It still took a couple of matches to get familiar again… I can get into a groove after playing it a couple of times… And they look simple, but many have different ways to play it depending on your team and weapons… > >What are you talking about teaching for. It’s just giving people enough time to play the levels. 2 hours gives people enough time to play each level a few times. Cycling through all of them does the exact same thing. Youre getting exposed to levels one way or another > >And why do you think it’s Nintendo being stubborn.
But after like 5 levels, it’s like I haven’t even played it today… I’ve heard maybe a couple of people complaining about it for the first game… But not much since then. So being stubborn doesn’t really make any sense… That said, they could be stubborn, which is within their rights, as well… It is their game… And as others have said, maybe they are doing it for a specific reason. You assume it’s has to do with money of laziness, but that’s an assumption. And since it’s actually more work to not to rotate through them all, chances are it’s not laziness… As for money, I’m not sure how that would even save them money…
My man you would have loved the 4 hour timer in splatoon 1.
Its pretty fun so fa- *A communication error has occured*
Game has been a blast when I can play but connectivity issues are killing me. Is there some setting I am missing?
Nope Nintendo just can't afford to use the money we throw at them specifically for online play to invest in their online play.
No its just been bad with it
It's just so new, best be patient
Is there any way to exit the waiting lobby if you never match up? I feel like I missed something obvious... Though, it only happened once yesterday.
Literally close out to the Home menu for a few seconds and then back in. Used to use it to reconnect in Splatoon 2 but now it completely disconnects from the queue so, new workaround lol There should also be a button, I think + or - ?
Open the eShop and let it load for about 10 seconds or until the front page loads. That'll disconnect you from the queue
Wow, what a work around. I hope they fix it.
Or just put your switch to sleep!
They won't it's been this way for years.
You should hear your own weapon
Weird. It must be a glitch then. Thanks.
🤷🏽♂️ I will say that I didn't realize how much I would appreciate the replay feature.
New maps give these kind of games a certain level of freshness.
Ia it just me or online connectivity is bad? For half of my games either me or someone else gets dc. I already got a 40 min ban. Im playing on americas/aus/nz region btw. This is my first splatoon game and after checking r/splatoon , I honestly cant tell if having bad online is just a meme or really a nintendo issue for all games
same region here, connectivity issues up the inker, and that's on my really good wifi when I'm sitting across from the router.
The connectivity has been awful
I haven't played a ton, only level 5, but only had it happen once to me.
I’ve gotten similar disconnects at with Splatoon 2. People saying it’s improved are just homers.
Game save file stays on the switch internal memory/sd card. You should be fine.
Why would you even do that if you already own physical? lol
I’m guessing yes but strictly a guess.
Anyone else in the US NOT get any kind of pre-order bonus with this?
GameStop just straight up didn't give me my damn stickers, man
Yeah Best Buy was supposed to give me a keychain but didn’t until I showed them articles of it. They got it sorted out and gave me a keychain in the end though.
Thats where i got mine. They were clueless as to that deal. I didnt get mine.
That happened with my copy of Metroid Dread. It was supposed to come with a set of decals. I believe the store gets a bag of the preorder bonuses, and are supposed to put them with the in store pickup orders, but employees aren't specifically told this.
Same here in France :/
The dude wasnt even aware of it. So i have no idea. I went and looked where the games were on the shelf and didnt see any so who knows.
Got mine from Bestbuy and didnt get anything they had keychains listed as not for sale on the site tho….
Who’s playing? **Who’s loving it??** I want to know if Nintendo finally figured out online play and you can make friends in this game? My switch gaming is lonely.
I played for an hour yesterday, like it so far. My first Splatoon experience. I jumped right into online and really suck at it so I will do some single player today to actually learn how to play.
It’s get easier. When I first played, I could barely keep up with anything… Now, I’m going around destroying everything in my path (according to my buddy). Haha…
You can always be on the same team for turf war by making a room and they join it. Salmon Run is always open. So yeah it's way better for friends to play together.
Nice. Probably gonna go buy it today and see what it’s all about
Great game. Love it so far. Improves everything the second game did (not saying it was bad though). Worth picking up!
You can do both. You can make a room and queue with friends or you can join them after their current match and end up mixed
So is there a way to skip the map presentation?
Press L3 when it gets to the actual newscast.
The little broadcast at the beginning? Yes. You press the left joystick in.
Played about 5 hours so far and I love it. All the new content and QOL is great. This game makes splatoon 2 pretty much redundant, it feels like it improved over everything.
Ah you can play 3 ? I have been unable to match properly from yesterday to now, and it always shows that I connect incorrectly;-;
The game is great but if you blindtested me on on a random level whether it's 2 or 3, I couldn't tell ya.
That's a stretch.
I probably have a bit of recency bias, but I don’t see any reason to go back to splatoon 2 other than for old times sake.
Campaign+Octo Expansion is still pretty good.
Yeah the singleplayer content is good, but I was mostly thinking multiplayer.
I played a bit last night, and my switch started buzzing (or whatever noise makes that fan). In docked mode. Anyone else has a problem with overheating?
That’s exactly what your fan should be doing
Sheeeeesh How do you match? I haven't been able to get a match but my network is fine XD
If you can't get a match. And other people can. Your network is not fine.
I don't know, I had no problem with the pre-release event. I'm from EU.
okay thannnnks!
Now that you mention it, I had no issues with the pre-release Splatfest. I can still get into matches 1 out of 4 attempts or so, but I get a lot of comm errors. Seems like fewer errors for Salmon Run for me though
I love it.
RIP this franch- *A communication error has occurred*
Idk if it's just me but online is literally unplayable I'm getting constant communication errors I haven't been able to play a match yet it's extremely aggravating
I get a connection error once in every three matches.
Yeah, it happens. Believe it or not, I find this game has improved on 2’s connection errors.
Thanks!
I still don’t have my best buy preorder code ughhh has anyone gotten theirs yet? Reviews are tanking on the site because of it.
Any opinion on if I should get this digital or physical? This will be my first time playing Splatoon.
When is the next Splatfest?
It will probably be around Halloween. They usually do Halloween Splatfests.
It hasn't been announced, but I believe the first Splat 2 fest was about a month after launch.
I played 2 for a while and either absolutely sucked or did okay. I think a lot depends on your team
Splatoon is really the type of game where you need to get in the zone. You have to play regularly to start winning.
Don’t beat yourself up bruh, I’m bootycheeks at splat too but it’s not stopping me from playing. I love that we can jump into salmon run anytime, I plan on playing that mode to relearn movement lol
I've been playing since the first game and I'm getting motion sickness while playing now, getting old sucks.
What does getting old have to do with getting motion sickness from games? I’m old as shit and I’m perfectly fine playing it Lmfao.
Yes and if someone disconnects early enough the match stops
Where can I play the card game? I found Booster packs in Singleplayer, but I have no idea where to go for the card game.
It’s the hub area. From the lobby entrance go down the stairs, take a left, take another left, go up some ramps, take a final left, and you’ll see a orange fish lady standing by a stall.
Or, for a much faster path, just go left instead of going down the stairs. It’s a big circle.
Nice, I thought it was a little out of the way haha
Thanks! I found it!
I believe it opens up somewhere in the hub area once you hit Level 4 in multiplayer.
Glad to hear it lives up to the bar Octo Expansion set!
i heard a lot of complaints about the inability to party up with friends in S2... is that issue fixed in S3?
You can. If you party with friends before a match, you'll always be on the same team. If you join a friend that's already playing, you'll join the group when a slot opens, but you may not always be on the same team.
Yep it is. You can party up with friends.
Splatoon 2 got 100 professional reviews on metacritic we're just about over half for Splatoon 3 atm. Interested what the stragglers have to say

How do i play with my friend co op? When i try to play with friends it doesn’t allow me to join in unless i drop into my friends game mid game
iirc press left or right on the dpad while looking at the game mode you want to play.
If coop is good in this game, I'm in. I want to play with my 7 year old.
Awww… That’s cute. I have a friend at work that also plays video games with his kids. I think it’s really nice, and great bonding time, as well!
We’re live!!! Have fun guys!
IGN gave separate scores and reviews for single and multiplayer. 8.0 and 9.0.
I don’t see multiplayer review from them yet….
They have both up and have from the day of the embargo release. If you click the score at the top of this post it's the multiplayer review.
It is not a final review but rather “if we had to score it now” review.
Par for the course
Anyone knows at what time will the game be released?
Midnight local time
I thought midnight east coast time in the states
Yes, midnight EST (9pm Pacific) in North America.
Does anyone know how many Salmon Run maps launch with it? Also, does the seasonal catalog launch with the game or is it coming later?
Maps are still on rotation for Salmon Run (upcoming rotations can be previewed in-game). First catalog is available from launch until November.
Thanks! Did they bring back all the old Salmon Run maps? Or is it all new ones? Or a combo of both?
From the schedule in-game it looks like it’s a mix of both.
