Oh well I guess a better flair would be purchase questions

LJ-Rubicon

The Jeep only had the 4.0 and the 2.5 Don't get the 2.5. UNGODLY slow Be patient for the right 4.0

[deleted]

Later TJ models had a 2.4

Poweralth

2nd person to say this so it sounds like the right idea, think I'm just getting impatient and can't wait for my first jeep

LJ-Rubicon

I waited longer than I wanted to for my LJ, and in the end the extended wait was worth every second. The right deal will eventually come along, don't cave for less

Use the notification feature on Kijiji or whatever buy and sell site you use. I had mine set up to give me notifications when new “Jeep” listings came up. That’s how I got my YJ before anyone else. It has a 4.2 AMC engine and I’m quite happy with it. It has 300,000 km on it so about 180,000 miles. And the motor was rebuilt about 50k ago. Use that notification feature and be ready to buy. Make sure the frame is solid My last Jeep was a 4 banger and honestly, it wasn’t that bad. I would own another one. If it’s tuned up it still boogies along. Just hills you have to drop into 4th. It’s a Jeep not a Camaro 😉👍

I own a 2000 tj with the 2.5 and while yes it is very slow you can still drive on the highway with it no problem. I have never had anything go wrong with the engine either.

The 2.5l 4 cylinder is pretty much the same as the 4.0 just with two less cylinders. It was also very reliable but it produced 120hp and 139 lbft so it was very slow and underpowered. I guess the only fear I’d have with them is that you’d have to drive it pretty hard to keep up with traffic. I wouldn’t care so much about the lack of power if it wasn’t gonna be wheeled. With that said, if you can wait, wait a bit for the 4.0 prices to drop. Learn how to inspect the jeep well because they do sell fast and you’ll wanna buy as soon as you look at a good one.

I'll probably be wheeling a bit when I find trails out when I go camping so having some power is a big deal for me, thanks for the advice!

4.0's were the last ones, they were around for ever and U can get parts all over the world. You can also work on them with out a computer engineering degree. I have owned jeeps for the last 45 years CJ 5s,7s,scramblers bought my forever 04 Rubicon NEW and it still has only 78000 miles. Only work done is Tires brakes, hoses, water pump. Wait for the right one and save ur cash, I have been offered almost what I paid for it
