Yes. Keep seasonings minimal if you want them to be more versatile

OJs_knife

That's what I was planning. Would it matter if I cooked them in the oven or poached them? If I poached them, I'd toss in some onion and S&P and peppercorns because I'd use those in whatever I used the chicken in.

TurkTurkle

Poaching them will leech some of the flavor. When i make chicken for shredding i just bake or air fry them. Did so a few days ago for chicken cottage pie and froze what i didnt use.

OJs_knife

How about poaching them in chicken broth? Might add a lot of salt to them though. But it should infuse a lot of flavor, no?

ToqueMom

I poach in chicken broth all the time. Works well. You can add in other things if you like.

SpaceTurtle917

Salt will just preserve it better

Dr_Poofist

Better than freezing? Lol

SpaceTurtle917

No

Lanceparte

Lots of yesses, I would add that with shredded chicken more so than whole chicken, keeping a tight seal is pretty important to prevent freezer burn. If you have access, try to store packed very tightly or using a vacuum seal bag (just speakin from experience)

OJs_knife

That was my plan.

Oldenlame

Yes. It's an Instapot technique for meal prep. 1. Put frozen chicken breasts, thighs, legs, whatever in Instapot 2. Add chicken broth 3. Cook for an appropriate time 4. Remove chicken, debone (if necessary), and shred. 5. Freeze in meal portions. DeusExMaChino

Instapot isn't a thing Edit: lol triggering Instapot truthers. It's "Instant Pot" and Instapots literally do not exist

Oldenlame

I'm popularizing it. It's going to go viral any day now. Get in early.

Helenium_autumnale

I haven't bought an INSTAPOT yet but my friend is trying to convince me to buy an INSTAPOT.

lex-kitten

I was just telling my sister this is a huge pet peeve of mine the other day!! Thank you for your service 🫡

writelefthanded

I do that. Tho I don’t shred the chicken. Don’t see why you can’t.

mndsm79

Yep. That'll work

kurtz4008

Yes. Absolutely. I do this all the time.

badfishg

I like grinding, cooking and the freezing.

Kraknaps

Sure you can. If you're using boneless, skinless, I would freeze the whole pieces after cooking. That way you can shred, chunk, or slice as needed, after thawing.

OJs_knife

My plan is to shred and vacuum seal in 8 oz packages. This way I can grab what I need for whatever I'm cooking that would use shredded chicken (soups, Mexican, etc). Thanks for the reply...

memetunis

I do this often except with a whole chicken.

brave7468

I do this a lot but I use my crock pot to cook the chicken

Figmania

Yes you can.

englishmuse

I do this all the time and then pull out what I need for chicken wraps, chicken curry dishes, etc. No more tossing out outdated meat.

witwebolte41

Just buy a bunch of rotisserie chickens from the store and save a step

Dmk5657

you know I was thinking you might as well do canned chicken at this point, though this is probably going to taste better.

Cinisajoy2

Yes.

Nagadavida

Yep

ObliuiscereHumani

Yup. Cooking kills bacteria, so no safety issue. Texture might be *slightly* off, but if you're going to shred it I don't think that it'll be a problem.

ToqueMom

Yes, perfectly fine.

JbearNV

Yes. I find it keeps best when submerged in broth.

Ezpzlulz

If you’re doing this in bulk, shredding with a hand mixer is best. Just a matter of seconds.

OJs_knife

How about a stand mixer with a paddle?
