Do the training, do your six years service. Get out and join the company who is contracted to support your equipment. Earn a bucket load more and leave the army with some good stories about how you served your country.

Disastrous-Camel206

ICT specialist is just the name they are giving the combination of telecommunications tech, info systems tech and comm systems operator. Your career will be one of those depending on what you are given/pick at IETs.

vandemonianish

This is the correct answer.

Puzzleheaded-Pie-277

What do you mean this is all you got offered? That seems odd. Out of 700 roles that is available this is the only one you can do?

Frostboy4

I was told I would have to wait another 12 months if I didn’t take this role, and I had already waited 12 months because same thing happened last year. Not completely sure why, but I assume they just needed more people in ICT. (It’s not because I wasn’t good enough for other roles, I’m more then fit and I did really well on the aptitude test)

Disastrous-Camel206

You should read and up the 3 different jobs and confirm they are something that interests you. Would you rather wait a year to get the job you want or be stuck in one you don’t like for 6.

ScottyCuzz

When did you apply? Infantry is listed as a priority role right now

Frostboy4

I applied last month, Infantry was a priority at the time too. Again I think they just weren’t getting enough in ICT.

Puzzleheaded-Pie-277

There was only a very low number of recruits in the last Navy intake, which means we are screaming for ppl. Don’t let them push you into a role you may not like. ICT is most definitely NOT the only roles available as priority right now.

Focke123

Exact same for army as well. Reserves, Full time, Officers, ORs, infantry, ordnance, it doesn't matter. I'd assume same for air force, to a degree.

bigcitydreaming

Doesn't mean much mate, you might be on track to wait 12 months but if someone in front pulls out you might get a call up to join with 2 weeks notice after only waiting 2 months. Do not accept an offer for a job that isn't your main interest. If you'd like ICT specialist just as much then by all means accept, but don't accept any job if it's not what you want.

bigcitydreaming

700? You only get 3 preferences for your Assessment session, so if 2 aren't hiring anytime soon but the third one is, that's the only one you can do anytime soon unless you sit another Assessment session with different preferences

Izob

I know you might be eager or desperate to join. But be careful in what you choose. You might not be able to transfer when you want and you have to keep doing the job even if you don't like it. You should also ideally get into a role you want to make a career out of.
