I also used to work in a bar and when we had to make the ice ourselves so it all adds up to an increased electricity bill for making the ice. I can see it both ways. But you don’t make drinks this way all the time, once in a while. Takes a couple of mins to freeze a glass.
It’s to help mix and dilute the alcohol. Not in a watered down gotta save money way but to make a good drink. How To Drink on YouTube is actually pretty nice to watch and Greg the host explains some things as he makes drinks and what not. It’s a pretty fun channel and I love his editors “tasting notes” that she puts in for him.
Probably a bit of a placebo effect. The thermal mass of the glass is pretty insignificant compared to that of the liquid being put inside it, especially if the ice isn't even cooling it much below ambient.
Within a few seconds of that drink being put in, the glass will have taken on it's temperature anyway. Like when you pour hot coffee in a cold mug. The mug heats up a lot more than the coffee cools down.
One of my favorite episodes.
Its called "Mucho Mouse" and it's where Tom the American mousing champion gets flown to Spain to help get ride of Jerry Mouse, the bullfighter.
My favorite line is, "Yo lazy!? Señora, you have hurt me here!"
[Mucho Mouse](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7ujgna)
My favourite episode is the one where Tom tries to frame Spike for eating all of the food in the fridge and Jerry takes a photo. Tom spends the rest of the episode trying to get all the photos back lol
Should watch "how to drink" on YouTube. It's kinda like binging with babish except with alcohol. I love the slo-mo shaker shots he does. Plus better than these Chinese tik tok bar videos, he actually tells you what's in the drink.
When I rule the world the first new law is separate queues for people ordering cocktails
It will be enforced by martial law.
Never again will someone wait half an hour for a lager and lime because the twat in front of them just ordered 7 strawberry daiquiris
Not under my iron fist
Can i get a side car?
Ohh nice big piece of ice, wait why are you styring the ice?
Why are you now juggling, i just want my drink!
STOP throwing things, u just want my drink please it been an hour now please sir!
Ohh finally your done Sha... MY ICE! Why did you do that that was perfectly good ice!
I'm done *turns and walk out*
I do. It's entertainment. If you don't like it don't watch it.
Pretty sure you can find any other ordinary bar where they'll just throw your drink together as fast as possible.
Everything in fancy bars look SO dang fancy. Except the lemon juicer. They’re all the same tacky color. It’s always my favorite part of these cocktail videos, spot the lemon juicer I have In my drawer! They’re so out of place and it’s amazing lol
People need to stop trying to come up with the most unnecessary way to do things. Like I dont want to go to McDonald’s and have my server doing this shit to my burger if sis’s. The trend is already over we already got two super cool things (salt bar and ice cream guys from Turkey). Can we go back to doing things in the most simple way please.
I am triggered the way they make perfect ice and then waste it
It’s just to chill the glass isn’t it? Would make more sense to put the glass in the fridge before making the drink so you don’t waste the ice eh.
Ya but that's not as cool. Lol
You're right. It would be *cooler* if they did put in the fridge.
You are technically correct.
The best kind of correct.
Take my upvote and go away
You don't want the stem to be cold

Innit
Nah. You would make the handle part too cold. You only want to cool the bowl part
doesn't he know there's a severe ice shortage
Yeah and it's not a particularly effective at cooling the glass down either, poor contact area and poor conductivity of the glass.
It's noticeable. The big thing is the glasses are often room temp or even warm. As long as you can cool it down a little it makes a difference

Literally came here to say this. I want that big ole ice cube too.
Consherve - Tony soprano
Also using a cheap plastic press and cutting directly on the wooden bar top, that ruined it.
And then the other bar tender slips on the ice and breaks their neck
"That'll be $74.99. Cash or credit?"
Exactly! All that labor to make that drink 🍸
For real, just give me a strong drink and skip the performance
Clear ice to chill the glass is a major flex
That ice was so beautifully clear. Huge flex.
I spent more time watching Tom & Jerry on the TV in the background
Lmao I didnt even see that why is tom and Jerry playing in a bar, even a home bar. I mean I can't blame them tom and Jerry is good.
Good episode too. Its the one where Tom chases after Jerry.

I can promise you, with 100% confidence and my hand to god, that I would have stabbed myself in the back.
There's a few subs that'd like to see that
so would I... with the spoon. I am that dexterous.
That zest squeeze!
For me it's when he spikes the lemon with the knife.
I know it’s all a show and a part of the novelty of going out and getting a fancy cocktail, but fuck, watching that ‘shaking’ actually wound me up.
Should watch "how to drink" on YouTube. It's kinda like binging with babish except with alcohol. I love the slo-mo shaker shots he does. Plus better than these Chinese tik tok bar videos, he actually tells you what's in the drink.
I wish he would throw that ice cube on a side plate so I could pick at it
My.guys watching tom and Jerry!
Just make my drink already.
Here's your drink. That will be $45.
All that work just for somebody to down it in two gulps and go back to partying
By the time he's done with the drink I don't want to be an alcoholic anymore
Ok Tom and Jerry will keep me occupied
Fuckin hell all the whiners in this thread "StOp wiTh tHe tRiCKs. mE wANt dRiNk nAoW" Piss off
People are so serious
I could watch this guy all day.
you have to, that's how long it takes to get you dang beverage!

How about self-serve taps, y'majesty?
I just want a pint in a cold glass, move over to the cocktail queue for your lime in a lager.
Hahaha! True, but I guess good things come to those who wait. He’s probably keeping folks from getting DiWis at that pace.
he does it with such skill and precision
Better pick up that ice cube before it causes an accident
I like how he got tom and jerry playing in the background
The combination of the music and mad skills is just 👌
Man I hate flaretending more than I should. Honestly, I hate all pretentious things just to be pretentious
All this goes out the window when you're in the weeds
Wonder how many things are broken behind the bar
Can i get a side car? Ohh nice big piece of ice, wait why are you styring the ice? Why are you now juggling, i just want my drink! STOP throwing things, u just want my drink please it been an hour now please sir! Ohh finally your done Sha... MY ICE! Why did you do that that was perfectly good ice! I'm done *turns and walk out*
I thought the same thing! How much of the bartending school these people go to is just playing catch?
Stop the Harry Potter shit and give me the fucking drink. Seriously, who likes this shit?????
I do. It's entertainment. If you don't like it don't watch it. Pretty sure you can find any other ordinary bar where they'll just throw your drink together as fast as possible.
Lmao then go to a normal bar not a cocktail bar. Let people enjoy their show you grumpy fuck
I'm with you. That was skillful no doubt. But a bit much for a friggin sidecar. With all that show id expect an original cocktail
There are a million other bars you can go to that won’t do this.
Flair* not skill Who knows Drink could taste like shit, he has flair, not skill, true skill resides in one’s ability to make a drink well, not flashy
Makes sense for a bartender competition or something, but I'm not waiting 20 minutes for one drink to be made.
God damn it I hate this so much, if I wanted cirque des Soleil, I would have bought tickets to that.
The man has the moves.
Uhhh……I’ll have one please!
I nutted
“I ordered this cocktail 35 minutes ago”…
Why did he stir the single ice cube?
to cool the glass evenly
all good and fine, the guy is a bona fide expert, yaddah yaddah, but what's the recipe for that drink? looks nice.
Sorry not sorry, shit just fails for me when I see them stir....ice
Awesome skill. If that was me i would most definetly slip on that piece of ice he/me threw...
Damn, I bet that’s refreshing AF.
Anyone else notice the Tom and Jerry on the TV in the background? Lol
And then the drink tastes like ass
....I said 1 coors light.
Yeah! Fuck that ice cube!
Hacker
Turns around and slips on the ice cube
Just give me the fucking beer!
Everything in fancy bars look SO dang fancy. Except the lemon juicer. They’re all the same tacky color. It’s always my favorite part of these cocktail videos, spot the lemon juicer I have In my drawer! They’re so out of place and it’s amazing lol
That’ll be $800
And in the meantime I’ve made 20 drinks and 20 times the amount of tips than this guy with his flair.
People need to stop trying to come up with the most unnecessary way to do things. Like I dont want to go to McDonald’s and have my server doing this shit to my burger if sis’s. Wow
Vodka diet with a lime, please
Such a spectacle in such a shitty looking bar. Like watching Cirque in a Burger King.
shaken, not stirred
Cool now do it with no video cuts
Ahh yes. Make sure to stir the ice cube. This shit is so cringey. Just put the liquid in the cup jeez.
Asians are skilled
So many unnecessary movements
So to be a good bartender you need to learn circus arts first
Wonder the amount of broken glasses to reach this finesse lol
I bet this dude would be incredible with a balisong
Am I the only guy that just wants my drink I ordered and don't Wana watch it take 4 times longer to make than if you did it yourself.
If you’re filling jobs based on ethnicity, for bartender I’m going Japanese. Who should I pick for janitor?
Isn’t this guy Chinese in Harbin?
This looks snazzy and all but I’m trying to get drunk
you don't go to a high-end cocktail bar to actually get plastered. too expensive!!
20mins for ur shitty tasting drink that cost $22. Just dump this in a cup and serve it, jesus
Why the slow mo shake… but the TV is moving normal speed.
Not impressed… that’s nothing more than a bar version of Benihanas
