I had a jeep and there was a significant and relatively steep downhill part of the highway on the way between my city and another. It would be all brake lights all the way down. It's a common trap spot for highway patrol. I'd just pop into neutral and coast down the hill maintaining speed with my air brakes
I’ve got a gladiator and it feels like it’s gonna tip over when a crosswind hits it.
Surprisingly gets like 24mpg though which is better than my Tacoma, though my taco was a manual.
Mine's a 2021 "2.5 Turbo Premium Plus AWD," which I had to look up because they have 6 trim levels of the same car, but looking at what mazda quotes that's pretty average, at least for city driving.
You get 24mpg? You must do a lot of highway. I get closer to 19/20. And yes on the wind part, usually when I reach over 70 I need to watch out for windy days.
Yeah kinda live at the far end of a long highway. I was surprised really because I think the manufacturer rating is like 19/20 highway.
We’ve done some off-roading but I didn’t really pay attention to it at the time.
Huh, you might be right. Now I'm not as sure. I could've sworn that this was for Tatras early aerodynamic cars (which were built in the '30s) but now I am beset with doubt.
They actually look quite similar, and they were designed around the same time. I think the Tatra 77 pre-dates the Chrysler Airflow by a year or so, but not much.
Take a moment to check out anti-Semitic caricatures of Jews. Whether intentional or not, these drawings bear a great resemblance. And if in fact this is from a Czech auto company of the 1930’s, a time when anti-semitism was (again) on the rise in Europe, it’s more than plausible that being an advertisement, it was playing on these emotions.
Dang! I wouldn’t have noticed but it makes complete sense. There are so many embedded stereotypes in supposedly benign, entertaining, or informative imagery that even pointing out the props brings out (mostly) unintentional gaslighting in people who want to believe the best about humanity. It’s easier to blame those who notice.
You just believed him just because he said so? lmao.
No, it's not a jew thing. Evil people/creatures having hooked noses existed before the jew stereotype. It attached itself as a Jew insult later.
TLDR hooked noses were an insult before Jew was.
hook noses were an insult before jew was? huh? you know Jews were persecuted in Europe for a long time. People even blamed The Bubonic Plague on Jews, they used to say they were tainting the water and intentionally making people sick. The use of hook noses in media as a bad thing originates from Jews having hook noses
>hook noses were an insult before jew was?
Yes.
>know Jews were persecuted in Europe for a long time.
Yes. I'm talking way before that. The jews didnt start in Europe. It's an insult that works against anyone. "big nose" is said to all kinds of people all the time.
>The use of hook noses in media as a bad thing originates from Jews having hook noses
No.

Jeez, people sure like to see stupid things were they aren't. I don't believe this is anti semitic at all, like it doesn't make sense. And yeah get me all of the downvotes you want, your take is dumb af
The way I saw it, they needed to convey wind resistance as a bad thing so they had to make the wind a villain, and stereotypical features of evil people back then included features like a hook nose due to racist undertones directed at Jews.
it’s not directly saying jews are bad its using a hook nose to convey the wind as bad because hook noses were used to portray villains, the racism stems from why they used to use hook noses to portray villains
It doesn't make sense if you don't know that at the time (1930s) Nazi propaganda made Jews the go-to token "bad guy" across eastern Europe. The hook nose was the feature used to identify "Jews" in these caricatures. Please read this, it's not just a dumb take by some redditors to think this Czech poster from 1930s made air resistance a Jew so viewers understood it was "bad".
[Understanding the Antisemitic History of the Hooked Nose Stereotype](https://www.media-diversity.org/understanding-the-antisemitic-history-of-the-hooked-nose-stereotype/)
No thanks. I get what you are saying, but you are reading way too deep into this. Jews didn't even came to my mind but if it did in yours then thats a thing you made yourself
Fair enough, but my whole point was that it's *not* something I made by myself but something put into people's heads by 100+ years of media using the hooked nose as a negative caricature of Jewish features. The poster in OPs post is one of thousands of similar depictions casually making Jews the butt of whatever-we-don't-like.
I'm glad you haven't seen these depictions enough to notice, thankfully media is better about such open racism these days. But at the time that poster was made in the 1930's, that hooked nose was totally a Jew and nobody cared because "Jew" just meant "generic badguy" at the time.

The difficult part to overcome is the knee jerk reaction by those who think that an objective observation is itself a knee jerk reaction, or desire to read a deeper meaning, or even some kind of display of overly political correctness. It’s not. It’s just an observation.

I said their take was dumb af, not them. Next thing you are going to tell me that Heinz Doof is an evil jew just because of his hook nose
Maybe, but the hooked nose is specifically the symbol for Jews in negative caricatures and stereotypes going all the way back to Nazi propaganda in the 1930s.

IIRC there was a big move to aerodynamics until a Buckminster Fuller designed bus crashed and scared everybody off the teardrop design. Someone look it up. I am lazy..

The bottom car is more aerodynamic going backwards..
I thought a teardrop shape helps guide the air better and not create turbulence behind the car that has a suction effect on the car.

That's better mpg than my mazda 3 lmao
Don’t those have at max like 2.5 liter engines? If that’s the case that is astonishingly bad that they can’t get them above 24 MPG
It's probably just my driving and the fact that I do 90% city driving but yeah I get 22-23 on average.
My 2020 mazda3 breaks 30 easy so idk what homeboy is talking about
Mine's a 2021 "2.5 Turbo Premium Plus AWD," which I had to look up because they have 6 trim levels of the same car, but looking at what mazda quotes that's pretty average, at least for city driving.

It does zoom, I do love my car even if it sounds like I'm bitching about it. I just picked a bad time to buy it with gas prices how they are

Most middle easterners have an impressive schnoz, don't really care what western propaganda has to say about it
Top one is basically the same shape a g wagon.
And then they made SUV!
Ah, the 1930s. "More Doctors smoke Lucky...."
That looks a lot like a drawing by James Thurber. Does anyone know?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dymaxion_car#Accidents
Perfect! Not a 100% how I remembered it but certainly correct
“The inquest found the design of the Dymaxion was not a factor in the accident.” Wow, so just mass hysteria.
I'm more worried that it says it's a steel/aluminum shell on an... ash frame? I assume they mean ash wood? The frame was made of wood?? 😳
Don't tell them about the Spruce Goose.
Why is there a Valheim troll spooning an auto mobile?
This gets reposted almost every week and always gets shit loads of upvotes and awards. I might try it next week.
I’ll try it in 2 weeks lol
A think for all those SUV owners that pollute more just to be the biggest on the road
It would be pretty funny if a company made a super-aerodynamic SUV.
so basically a mini van with a solid rear axle and a turbo?
The Tesla Model X has a drag coefficient of 0.24. At the time it was released, that was 20% lower than the next best SUV.
Literally the point of the Tesla SUV's weird look, designed for lack of functionality in favor or aerodynamics
So basically a sport car
A repost from 1930 showing the advanced repost being reposted
The wind man has got my back

Lowest Cd is blunt-ish front, pointy tail, like a modern submarine
Take an aerodynamics class before commenting incorrect information
Yep. Same with the Porsche 920 series of the 1980’s. You want the front of the raindrop facing forward.
Looks like a fun time!
So I shouldn’t use my Jeep to drive in a street race?
r/worldbuilding
Those 30km/h winds… boy…. they’ll… we’ll they exist.
The car is Tatra 87
77 no?
Yes, 77.
Back when doing 25 was considered crazy fast.
Must have been the wind.
Important when your top speed is 45 mph
Looks more like aerodemonic. creepy
I guess that nobody back then was willing to believe that bad something existed unless it was depicted as a jew.
Meanwhile Jeep was like hold my beer...
That’s actually really clever
Jeep Wrangler in the first pic XD.
I should substitute the top car for my Jeep!
Notice how is resembles a **WING**!? The teardrop is the ultimate aerodynamic shape! Unfortunately it also makes the car want to **FLY** 🤣 That’s why you see race cars with a **SHARK FIN** 😉

Is this a Chrysler Airflow?
Really cool! Does the same applies to Raymond Loewy's styling objects? A aerodynamic pencil sharpener is obviously better than and blocky one, right?
