[WEEKLY MEGATHREAD] New Horizons Q&A/Tips - Ask away!
By - devvydowner
Is there a way to predict Celeste appearing on your island? It seems like every NPC in this game has a pattern. Does she come once a week? Once every two weeks?
I have eight Villagers with a slot available for a ninth, also I have currently no lazy personality villagers.
My question is; Does the game give lazy villagers (or any you lack) a bonus to appear on the nook miles islands that you visit?
I ask as I've been to two islands today as both have been Lazy villagers present, is the game helping me pick a lazy villager (in which case i'll keep trying to get the one(s) I want) or have I just been lucky? Anyone else have experience of this?
It's just random. I got 3 jocks from mystery islands while filling plots 8, 9, and 10 for the first time, even though the game starts you with 1 jock already.
Hey everybody I’m really confused because Mabel has been on my island for 3 days and none of the trees I’ve planted have grown any and neither had my bamboo. I woke up to find some cherries had popped up on my trees but only a couple. Any ideas? Also I just got the game like 7 days ago so sorry if I sound like an idiot lol
Have you been changing the system clock?
Bamboo is a bit tricky and needs extra space to grow as well.
No I haven’t been trying to time travel or anything.
Mable shows up 1 weekday and 1 weekend day I think. She should dissapear the next day but it could just be random luck she's been there 3 days in a row.
Fruit trees need 1 square in every direction to grow. Bamboo needs 2 I think.
I think this explains everything I was curious about. Thank you!!
I'm having a lot of trouble spawning flies. I've left some boots and cans out side by the beach for several days and there are no flies spawning. Am I doing something wrong?
No, its just random.
Hello again! My friend can't visit my island nor can I connect with hers. Thing is, I was just fine visiting my sisters island, and her mine, and have hosted to the internet last week just fine.
My friend has had another friend and her brother visit her once before, but when it comes to us, it keeps saying we can't connect with each other.
We're both Nat D on our consoles, and honestly it's difficult to follow/understand what Google results are telling us 😅
Is anyone able to help? Thank you ♡
One of my villagers asked me about my dream job. What are the implications of this? What is this information going to be used for?
No implications or consequences! It's just a bit of interaction 🤗 Sometimes other villagers will bring it up, but that's about it!
Perfect! Thank you very much!
Are there any island designing guides or places I can find tips? I see all of these amazing islands on YouTube but this is my first time playing an AC game since the GameCube so I have no idea what I’m doing! I know the basics but that’s about it.
r/horizondesigns is another option
Thanks so much! 💕
Hi, my starter villager is moving out and a friend is adopting her. I was wondering if it is possible to re-invite her from my friend's island next time so that she can get a fully decorated house?
I have considered inviting her from amiibo or island tours but I believe this 'new' her would not have any memories of me?
Yeah, it's possible, but the stars need to basically align. You need a vacant plot on the same day that she's in boxes on your friend's island.
As far as I know, an amiibo or mystery island copy wouldn't remember you. Getting her back from your friend, that version might remember you, I don't know. I do know that she'll remember you when you go visit her on your friend's island, so the memories are kept at least that long.
If it was your starting villager, even if she moves she won’t have a decorated house I believe
can someone explain how villagers can movie from ur friends island to urs ?? like what?? sorry im genuinely confused
If they're already moving out "in boxes" another player can come chat them up to convince them to move to their own town
There is a rockhopper penguin called Hopper staying at my campsite today and I love him. Penguins are one of my favourite animals and I really want him to move in but I already have 10 residents. I am ignoring 3 of them in the hopes they’ll leave. Is there anyway I can make them leave faster and somehow keep Hopper? Please help
Ignoring doesn't work.
But just keep talking and the camper may ask about staying. They'll pick a random villager to leave so that they can move in.
I believe you can keep talking to a camper and they will eventually offer to move in, replacing a random villager you already have. If you don't like the villager they suggested turn the system off before it saves and try again
Can you keep re-inviting a villager from an amiibo card if they move out later, or is it one-time-use only?
You can reinvite them.
Sweet, thanks! That's great insurance for keeping my favorite around.
Can furniture be shaken for cedar trees?
Is there a website or subreddit or database where people post their custom designs? Everyone else is way more artistic than me and I’d like to browse through what other people have made for their dresses and sidewalks, etc.
I find this quite useful [https://nooksisland.com/designs](https://nooksisland.com/designs)
r/ACQR might be helpful!
I’ve been playing for 4 days, what’s the general time frame for NH? I feel like there’s so many characters i haven’t met yet, and I’m a little confused i might be doing something wrong!
Also, is there a quicker way to switch between tools other than the left/right buttons? Or the X?
Tool ring, you can get it at the atm once you have the upgraded ATM thingy. Also timeframe.. Take it at your own pace. It's meant to be a game to relax and enjoy the little things. Don't worry too much about some of the crazy designs people are already doing, just enjoy the game, every island is special in it's own way 😊
So if I have a villager in boxes that my friend wants, but they already have 10 villagers... What happens? Can they invite them to their island? Or do they need to have an empty house lot before being able to invite?
I'm a bit worried that we'd both have to be in the perfect time frame, where they have an empty house lot after a villager moved, at the exact same time that I have their desired villager in boxes. The chances for that to happen just sound very slim to me unless you time travel like crazy.
They need the empty plot unfortunately
They won't be able to invite them. You have to be in that perfect time frame, unfortunately.
Hello! Do residents leave on their own or they always need my confirmation while they are rambling with the little clouds on their head?
They can leave on their own if you ignore their question about a move out.
We are just beginning to discover that villagers can leave on their own, without asking you first. We don't know what triggers it yet, or if it's just random.
Normally I would say you have to talk to them, but I’ve been seeing increasing posts lately of villagers moving out without being talked to
Does watering a flower beyond 1x a day make a difference?
Not if *you* water it more than once a day. But if players from other islands water it on the same day, it does speed up breeding. See [this spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rbYbQ0i3SuTu30KTma5dO4uuJWr_SjOZXA1l4UOIHWo/) for the technical details; but the summary is that each visitor who waters your flowers increases the flower's probability to breed, up to 4 visitors per day. 5 or more doesn't make a difference.
Awesome link, thanks
Thank you so much! That’s really helpful
no, you just need to water once and any more wont do a thing. you can tell whats been watered cause it will sparkle!
Is there a place I can post the extra DIY recipes I have or should I just sell them?
people do buy them but only for rare and popular diys, ive seen them sold in a few places so you could try!
I’m new to this game and was just wondering, can I change the places of the store and the museum later in the game?
yes. it will cost 50k bells each
Yes!! Will cost 50,000 bells, but it’s not that much once you get to that point
Edit: to clarify, it doesn’t *seem* like that much.
Yea. Every building exept the resident service one and airport one can be move as soon as you unlock the resident service building.
can you adopt villagers from campsites on other peoples islands?
I really want a symmetrical island but my resident services building and airport are slightly off center. Is there really nothing I can do about that?
yeah those things cant be changed unfortunately
Can shooting stars only fall when villagers talk about a meteor shower or Celeste is there? Or can it be any night with a clear sky?
Any clear sky can have shooting stars. Meteor showers though are usually announced.
Ed is crafting gold armor! Stop by if you’d like it. Tips appreciated! Message for dodo code
In the pictures on the Eshop I saw autumn (fall) with mushrooms! And there’s snow in winter.. (probably a stupid question) Will there be those in the SH too?? Or just NH like real life??
SH is experiencing autumn now. They’ll be the same content, just reversed. There are places in the Southern Hemisphere where it snows during winter!
Yeah, but it doesn’t snow where I am so does that mean I miss out on snow? I’m not a big fan of cold, but snow is pretty and I would like it on my island.
You won't miss out on snow. The weather isn't connected to where you live, the game will always have a summer and a winter. Southern and northern hemispheres just get the seasons at different times.
Thanks! 😅 I feel so much better!
No you won't. Where you live has no affect on the game at all.
Thank god! 😂 Snow is so pretty! Yay!
Do I need to build all 10 lots, I reluctantly built one for the first camper who id have preferred didn't move in but I understand your forced to. I'd prefer a less populated island, can I stop at 4 lots?
you can stop technically but you wont be able to progress. Project KK which unlocks terraforming and other aspects can only be completed if you have at least eight villagers.
I got KK Slider at 8 lots so I’m not sure if the amount of villagers are important or if it’s the amount of stuff you have on your island
I'm new to the game and I heard you need a 5 star village to get KK slider.
Have you heard of this?
you need three stars to get K.K slider and unlock terraforming and further aspects of the game. you need at least eight villagers to be able to do this
I'm having a hard time with this as I am not a creative person. I build an incline last night.
Tonight I'm going to add some fountains and stuff.
inclines and bridges dont matter for three stars! i acheived 3 without building any as i wanted to wait for terraforming. fountains and objects will however! goodluck tho :))
Do the inclines and bridges help though?
they definitely do in reaching five stars, i dont know if it does for three but you can get that without them
Sorry was only asking because I built an incline last night . Lol
I got him with only 3 stars
You need minimum 3 stars (-: I have 3 stars and I got him along with terraform
None of this is likely to happen. Nintendo isn't one to update their games very much.
Can anyone show me Doms house? He was one of my starting villagers and I love him so much, but I want to see what his actual home would look like, if it wasn’t the start furniture
Trying to unlock terraforming by reaching 3 stars. Keep getting told by Isabelle:
"Need to decorate island from head to foot!" and
"Number of complaints of too many trees".
Does anybody have a rough figure on how much decorating you have to do? Total objects placed or something? I've put down over 100 fence sections and must have scattered 30+ pieces of furniture around my island, with no change.
RE: Trees, I've cut down more than 30-40 of the things, and every time I go back and check (after every 5 or 10 I chop) nothing changes. Is there a known max number of trees? I don't want to destroy my production levels any more than I have to.
was this all today? i had the same thing- placed a bunch of fences, trees, flowers, objects etc and had no change but i loaded the game up this morning and checked again before doing anything and i had three stars. it seems the game only re-evaluates the rating the following day
Yes it was. Have any sources confirmed the "once a day" thing?
nope, that's just from my experience
I’ve for sure seen star ratings change throughout the day. Isabelle typically updates her feedback real time as well, though a lot of people claim her feedback is useless anyways. Like when she says you need more shops.
When she says “more shops,” often those people haven’t done the ceremonies for them. That will make them count. She consistently told me “more decorations” and that got me 3 stars.
But same as you, I think she updates ratings in real time. I put away my fountain and that brought me down to 2, but putting it up again immediately brought me to a 3.
I watched how to get 5 stars guides on YouTube and they have had the same experience!
Oh, you know, I had never considered the ceremonies! So what if you don’t have them? Do they then count after the week-long celebration period has expired?
Not sure... I forgot about the ceremony for the Able Sisters shop for a long time, but I guess I still got in within the week. I haven’t seen anyone talk about having missed ceremonies
I mean, I would assume I guess since I didn’t hold the able sisters ceremony but still made it to 3 stars
yeah idk then, i didnt change anything from yesterday but it could of also been that a tenth villager moved in which may have bumped it up?
I believe 220 is the max for trees.
Not sure about the number for furniture, but “head to foot” sounds like maybe they need to be more spread out? Do they happen to be all in one area? Otherwise. It might be beneficial to vary the type of furniture you have. For 5 stars at least, I know it’s required to have a number of nook miles furniture, regular furniture, *and* crafted furniture.
spreading out has nothing to do with it - you need at least 8 villagers, approx 50+ flowers (you want to get the nook award for planting them), plant 20+ more trees, 50+ fences, have at least 10 diy objects and 10 other furniture pieces and you should get it. thats what i have and i achieved it today!
The fences are pretty concentrated, 70-80% or so are right by Resident Services. but every flower I have is within 1 of 2 quadrants and she hasn't said a word about those one way or the other. The furniture is very spread out, and trees are concentrated in orchards and lumber groves but that still accounts for a pretty large amount of my island space overall. But it sounds like trees are purely a numerical issue. Also 220 is the MAX? Wow, I guess I'll have to count up my trees. I really overdid it, apparently.
Yeah, unfortunately the game kind of punishes those going for a more rural and forested look.

Hi guys, I have 2 residents in boxes? I only agreed to bob moving away when he was thinking about it but out of nowhere marshal is moving out too.
Can someone enlighten me why? I’m sad to see marshal go :(
Both on the same day?! This is disturbing :( I’ve never heard of this, let alone a villager moving without you saying ok
I think it's basically just a random thing. Residents will eventually decide to move out. Supposedly, no factor under the player's control will influence or change this.
It appears as though more players are beginning to discover that villagers can move out without your permission. We don't know what causes it at this time.
Are there any special conditions for Flick showing on the island? I have basically anyone showing on regular basis except him (Wisp, Gulliver, guy who sells hats, Saharah, CJ, Label, Mable Sisters shop built), but I never ever seen Flick's tail. Playing pretty much since release, no TT.
Who sells hats? I thought I'd seen everyone (some multiple times) except Labelle and I can't think who that is?
I think they mean Kicks, maybe they meant bags instead of hats? You can regularly get hats in Able’s so might have been a typo?
No, its random.
I dunno. I've yet to see Flick, Kicks, Hat Salesman, or CJ.
[Why are the trees not growing here?](https://i.imgur.com/QXUzgro.jpg)
They need some more space. Most trees will grow in a cramped area like that, but the game will select some and make them not grow. You'll have to dig up the saplings, put them somewhere with a bit more space, then move them back when they're adult trees.
huh that's a strange mechanic. I assumed that as long as all adjacent tiles were free a tree could grow. Guess I can grow them somewhere else then put them back later
There is a limit on how many trees in a single cell can grow. A cell is indicated by the big squares on your map.
They’re too close together to grow, you can put them back after they’ve finished. Saplings need more space!
I made the mistake of time traveling a couple hours ahead so I could shop and finish my chores for the day, and then reset the clock back to what it was, and the game treated it as if I'd been away for a long time. I'm lucky no one moved, but there were weeds everywhere and cockroaches and all my villagers wondered where I'd gone. There was no change to anything but the time of day in my system settings, so what went wrong? How did this happen? Why didn't the game register this as a simple skip back in time as it should have?
Are you sure you didn’t accidentally go back a year while trying to go back? I’ve gone back days before my time and that’s never happened let’s alone hours...
Yeah, 100% sure the year didn't change. I've gone back in time from a single day skip before with zero consequences, so I guess I was thoughtless about a couple hours doing anything. Maybe something about it being the same day messed with things.
That’s so weird.. and scary. So sorry to hear it messing up like that 🤕
That's what I get for time-traveling, I guess. Lesson learned. I'm just glad no one moved away.
I don’t think it should discourage you from doing it tho. I do it all the time and there’s no repercussions. I’m not sure what happened but it was probably just a one time mistake/glitch
I really only did it to hurry along an amiibo and then out of impatience for a minor thing today, so I think I'll play it safe from here on out personally. But I know a lot of people prefer to play it their own way and it's worked out fine for them. Just my bad luck I suppose.
I think going back in time to the same day probably treats it as if you were gone were a year. Or maybe it's just an auto-deterrent to dissuade people from doing exactly what you did. I don't think time traveling backward is generally recommended.
Can someone link me the post here where this dude placed all his stones in one place, the floor was sand and there was this pattern on the sand that looked liked lines made from rakes. It had a zen feel. I can't find it. Thanks.
[Is this it?](https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimalCrossing/comments/g38ka3/with_patience_i_did_a_thing/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
Does anyone know the specific timeframes villagers are crafting? I know it's supposed to happen 3 times during the day, but not not exactly when:)
Someone told me it is once in the morning (before 12pm), once in the afternoon (between 12PM and 6-7PM), and once at night (after \~7PM)
They've worked that way for me so far...
Can anyone else confirm their findings?
Rather than eat a piece of fruit to dig up a tree and move it, why not just chop the trees down and plant new fruit where you want new trees? Is there is disadvantage to this?
Waiting 5 days for the tree to grow, and possible placement issues. You can put a fully grown tree into a place where a spaling will not fully grow. You will lose 2 days on your fruit production cycle and 4 days on your wood production cycle.
It takes time for a tree to grow. Also saplings need enough space around them to grow, grown trees don't.
Can't get wood from growing trees.
No real disadvantage I guess other than planting fruit makes you wait 3 days for the tree to grow, whereas digging up the whole tree allows you to replant the whole tree in its previous condition.
If you don't count the day you bury the fruit, it still takes 4 days for fully grown.
Solid, thanks for the correction!
Why did Nintendo remove their Nintendo series themed furniture sets from these games? Do you think that they will ever return? Thanks.
No one knows, and no one knows
Is there any easy way to kick out a neighbour? I see Isabelle has an option for problems with them, but does it mean they get directly kicked?
No, talking to Isabelle just resets what they are wearing and any custom catchphrases or nicknames they’ve been given. The only way to kick them out is to be patient and wait for them to have the thought bubble above their head and talk to them then, time travel, or for a definite solution: using amiibo cards.
No, you don't have to ignore them. Villagers ask to leave randomly.
I agree. I’ve been ignoring two for days and my fave character asked to leave last night.
I'd like to make friends with someone on north hemisphere- I want to make bonsai and need cherry blossoms. I'm in Oceania. Fairly new but I'm happy to help where I can
I'm in the northern hemisphere!
Yass! I'm about to go to bed but I'll PM you my code
Daisy Mae seems to be on my island all of Sunday - thought she was meant to leave by 12pm?
I’m pretty sure special characters only leave once you go inside or close the game, so if you’ve been outside the whole time, that’s probably why.
I just talked to one of my villagers (Puddles) and she just told me that she wants to leave the island to travel the world instead! I have the option of telling her to go live her dreams or asking her to stay and I'm not sure what to do. She's an amazing villager and I don't want her to go but will she be mad if I ask her to stay? We weren't on bad terms or anything and I've been playing and talking to her every day so I'm kinda confused why this dialogue has come up.
It’s completely random, so you didn’t do something wrong or anything like that. If you want to keep her, tell her to stay and she will never leave (although she will probably ask again at some point, they all will, and you can again tell her to stay) or if you’d like the chance to meet someone new, let her go! Good luck!!
Good to know, thanks! :D
She won't be mad and it's just something they all periodically do. Tell her to stay and they usually give some happy speech about being glad that you want them there.
Ahh okay awesome :) Thank you so much!
how does the mysterious island encounter works?
i seen the same villagers appeared two-three times during my island gamble sessions
while I get both Judy & Raymond from my campsite.. maybe just my luck :/
As far as I know, every villager has the same chance of appearing on a mystery island. Some species just have more characters so they might appear more. .
It probably works the same for the campsite as well.
Hey all - does anyone know if you can get like bleachers on new horizons?
Can I invite a villager back after kicking them out?🌚💔
Also interested to know!
If they are already gone or in boxes, then no. But I do recall seeing people on here having luck using a different profile on their island to convince the villager to stay if you’ve already told them to go and it’s the same day.
Edit: Additionally, if you ever happen to run into them again on a mystery island tour or in your campsite, they are basically reset and are meeting you again for the first time.
What if I used an amiibo can I invite them back? Idc if they reset
Yes! You should be able to invite them again via amiibo!
Oh thank god that'd good to hear!
If their house already has boxes you can't talk to them a bunch of times and convince them anymore? How else can I avoid the villagers I like leaving?
I’m not entirely sure about when they are in boxes, maybe someone else can help us with that one.
Otherwise, you have to talk to them in order for them to leave, and you are allowed to tell them not to go. As long as you tell them not to go each time, they will never leave.
Oh okay I see, thanks!
Getting Conflicting info for Crossbreeding Flowers.
Cosmos for example:
[Efficiency Guide](https://gyazo.com/f64c9ec8cebd496a90824f10b4db54c1) says breed Red Cosmo+Red Cosmo = Black Cosmo
[Abdullah's Vid](https://youtu.be/n8UQGlmpDoQ?t=555) says breed Orange Cosmo+Orange Cosmo = Black Cosmo
Which do I believe? and why the confusion?
>and why the confusion?
Hybrids have multiple combos that can breed them.
[Flower Guide](https://www.reddit.com/r/ac_newhorizons/comments/fv55r6/couldnt_find_a_guide_for_flowers_that_showed_any/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) This is probably one of the more accurate flower breeding guide out there. Two Orange Cosmos for a Black Cosmo.
Why do I always get crappy rugs, flooring and wallpaper from Sahara? T___T I was beginning to think this was normal until I saw a lot of you posting beautiful floors and walls that you got from her. What am I doing wrong? u.u
I won’t buy from him anymore because of this!
Saharah is a she.
She’s a girl! No wonder why she sells you bad things
I'm trying to invite a random camper (not amiibo) to my island, but the villager suggested switching places with a villager I like.
Will the camper suggest another villager if I bug them enough, or will it always be the same suggestion?
Nope, they’ll continue suggesting the same one. You can get around this by force quitting your game as soon as they mention the name in dialogue, but once it auto saves, that villager is locked in.
I’m having trouble reaching enough stars to have KK perform on my island. I have an insane amount of flowers and lots of decor/fences, I have all 10 villagers, and my island is really clean (no rocks/weeds) but I’ve been stuck at 2 stars for a while now. Is there something I’m forgetting to do or something I could be doing better?
Have you tried adding more bridges and inclines? You need at least 2 inclines or bridges
I have a total of 5 :( I could try adding more though!
You don't, I got 3 stars with just the one mandatory bridge and no inclines.
Ask Isabelle and see what she says regarding what you need to add to your island.
She says flowers every time, and the entire second and third layers of my island are entirely flowers, with several flower gardens on the first layer as well.
That doesn't always work. Someone put down 400 fences, and Isabelle told them to put down more fences. You definitely don't need 400 fences to get even 5 stars, so... Isabelle's recommendations don't always match with what you need to do. Other players' Isabelle tells them to open more shops, when they already have both shops.
Oh I see. I didn’t know that, sorry.
Do you have any dropped items laying around? Except for naturally spawned seashells that you haven't interacted with, any dropped item really tanks your rating.
How many trees do you have? You need somewhere between like 50 and 220, any lower or higher than that hurts your rating too
Does bamboo count as trees? That may be my problem!
Yes, bamboo trees count as trees, but if you have too many trees, Isabelle will tell you that villagers have reported getting lost in the woods or something like that. If she doesn't say that, then you don't have too many trees
Aw yeah that’s not it then
I got 3 stars with 100 fences, 50 decorations, 10 villagers, the 1 mandatory bridge, no inclines, all buildings (not upgraded Nook's Cranny though), 200 trees, and 100 flowers. If you have all of that, then I have no idea
